"This place rocks!"

Yes there are a few stunted trees here and there, but mostly rocks. If you enjoy rocks, this is the place for you. The 'lake' is man made and has unpredictable changes in the... read more

First of all, to those who say "it sucks" and whine about the "pothole ridden road"...please stay away from nature, don't even look at it. stay in your condo with your modern conveniences or man-made lakes with man-made crap and just stay away. This planet has been 4.5+billion years in the making, humans were made in 30 seconds, live about... More

The other reviewers are right. There are bears, snakes, mosquitos, thunderstorms, floods, and droughts. Our first night there, years ago, 2 other campers told us there hasn't been a bear problem there in 25 years. We have a cooler with teeth marks to prove them wrong. That being said, we love this place. Every time we have been there has... More

Short drive from Fresno, no crowds clean cool air and the fishing is great, be aware it is a windy 1 lane paved road, not too bad but you will be rewarded once there.

This place is awful. The store is full of unfriendly workers, the lake is windy and fishing sucks, the mosquitoes thrive up here and rattlesnakes are everywhere. Let me add that the lake has very little water making a long haul from your boat to the campsites. I will not be coming back and I would recommend that you do... More

Agree with other reviewers....very long, tedious, curvy narrow road to get there, minimal supplies at store (seasonal), mosquitos, rattlesnakes, and bears. Lots of bears. Lots of open granite. If you camp there, be sure to put all your supplies in the bear box. Not a good fishing lake. Any hikes from Florence are very long and rugged. The lake gets... More

The ferry, actually an open boat, to the opposite side of Florence Lake is breathtaking. After dropping you off, you're on your own, hiking through a relatively flat trail that leads, eventually, to higher altitudes and the JMT. Love what's on the other side of the lake; not so much the lake itself.

Yes there are a few stunted trees here and there, but mostly rocks. If you enjoy rocks, this is the place for you. The 'lake' is man made and has unpredictable changes in the water level due to So Cal Edison's manipulations. Do you enjoy baking in the sun with yokels who haven't bathed in a week? You're in luck!... More

Mosquitoes are horrible. Road is awful. No facilities. Fishing is not great at all. Shaver Lake is much better for children and families. Water level is so low there is no lake. Not worth the drive. Lots of snakes and bears around here.

Stayed up in Mono Hot Springs and drove over to Florence Lake for the day. I hadn't been up here in many a year. Unfortunately there was a fire west of Huntington Lake and plenty of smoke in the area. We checked out the store and the dog, Sue. Talked a bit with the store folk and some backpackers getting... Ok. First off the road is about as scary as it gets and people drive recklessly even though its 1 lane. We experienced WAY too many people driving WAY too fast. Blind turns abound. We had no idea it would take so long to get to this lake.... It was the drive that never ended and by the time we... More
