We were in Jackson on a lark and decided to take the 30 minute drive to the Petrified Forest. It was so great! The price was right and just the right amount of effort. The walkway is paved and the trees are massive! We could not have been more pleased with our visit. An extensive mineral collection, a nice gift... More

Great place for an outdoor wedding, family reunion or just on a picnic. This place is historical and has a cute little gift shop but the employees as well as the maintenance and grounds keepers are super friendly as well as accommodating. The pavilions are large and picnic areas are strategically placed to house several different events at the same... More

I found out about this through a Groupon offer and we decided to give it a try. It was a lot of fun, really pretty, and lots of good historical and scientific info. Kids enjoyed the trail a lot. My husband is into science and geology and loved the museum. The gift shop was awesome too. We even ate a... More

This is located in Flora so it's a little off the beaten path but it is well worth the extra time. They have a nature trail that you walk with highlighted markers giving the specific information about each numbered point of interest. This is the only petrified forest in the whole Eastern half of the USA! You will see giant... More

Not only is the Forest trail a wonderful historical Natural learning experience (and tranquil as well); but the gem and rock and fossil museum is World Class and amazingly diverse and thorough!!! A real pleasant surprise. Also, many wonderful crystals, sculptures, artifacts, etc., for sale.

I visited the Mississippi Petrified Forest with my family almost thirty years ago and was excited to return with my brood. My fond memories were reconfirmed on this visit. The trail through the park is accessible for all ages, and my four kids - ages 2 to 9 - all had a good time. The self-guided tour brochure provided good... More

If you enjoy trail walks and learning something about our earth's history this is for you. I found the self guided tour very well laid out with a clear pathway. The brochure given on the start of tour described, in detail points of interest along the pathway. The entire self-guided tour took approximately 1 hour.

This park is full of history! The booklet gave us such insight into why things were the way they were. The fossils and rocks were amazing to look at and the gift shop was reasonably priced! Overall I'd come again.

Stopped here with grandchildren ages 7 and 11 on our way home after visiting the beach on Alabama. The forest is an easy hike on well-maintained trails. The written guide provided thoroughly explained the geological features of seen. It is a beautiful area and our grandchildren loved it. They were also interested in the museum and the gift shop which... More
