This is an awesome drive! Highly recommend doing it. Absolutely beautiful drive thru and over the top of the mountains. We want to do it again sometime!

Totally agree on the needing plenty time. You are travelling in the right month for daylight. You will be surprised how often you stop. It doesn't look too far on a map but with the twists and turns it takes time. Enjoy.

We were in an SUV. Roads are narrow, steep with hairpin turns and little shoulder. I agree with above answer.

Only place I saw along the drive was top of the world. I think they have cabins and camp sites. We stayed at red lodge inn. Not a big hotel, but a family owned motel. Nice sized rooms and awesome people. There are other... More
