We rented a car for two days to get away from the strip and took one day to drive to lake mead since the grand canyon was a bit to far. A walk along side the lake through tunnels built in 1931 that were used to transfer steel to build the Hoover dam. Took about 2hours, if you planned for... More

If you would like to know from where water supply for four states coming from - you have to visit Lake Mead. We did this tour as a part of visit to Hoover dam and we got really good info from our tour guide. It is really magnificent how big it is and how gorgeous it is - even in... More

Went to Lake Mead for bird watching, which was good. Saw lots of different water birds as the various lookouts. Lake seems very low and the beaches are not what I would expeect, just large gravel, like a forest service back country road. Did not see the trash like some other reviewers had reported, but several areas could use a... More

Thank you to the really helpful staff at the information/tourist point. Helped us with a map and points to stop as our hire car didn't have say nav so we were getting a bit lost! Thank you for your help (and a loo break!)

This beautiful lake surrounded by the Nevada mountains is the main source for the Hoover dam and is great to combine when you visit the dam. The lake, with a surface of 690km2, offers boat tours, but we decided just to enjoy the landscape views. Beautiful

Located outside the city of Las Vegas: this is a visitor center maintained by the National Park Service. It tells you all about the development and history of Lake Mead, and also shows the type of plant and animal life that lives there. It has quite a few photos and historical items on display. Worth a stop if this type... More

We passed this place on the way to Hoover Dam and decided to stop and take a few pictures. Whilst being unable to comment on any of the trips that people complain about we spent a pleasant half hour admiring the views and taking pictures. It was free to park.

I visited Valley of Fire State Park before driving thru this area. It's a great companion to the Park with its majestic vistas. We drove thru nearing sunset and lived the colors and contrasts. We had to stop from time to time just to admire formation details. It's a faster drive than the Valley of Fire with maximum speeds higher... More

Having just visited Hoover dam, we noticed a sign for Lake Mead and decided to have a look. It was well worth it, from the top of the access road, the views of the lake and area are wonderful, if you decide to go see, have a good camera with you but there is virtually no walking required and no...
