Go in the winter and spring before it gets warm, and the place becomes overwhelmed with tourists. The campgrounds are safe and well-maintained - flush toilets, drinking water, Internet access, electrical hookups, and a dump station - no showers unfortunately. Plenty of hiking, biking, and...More
We live in Henderson, NV and take visitors up through Lake Mead National Rec Area 4 or 5 times a year (usually heading towards Valley of Fire). Best way is to buy the annual car pass for $45. Only good for one vehicle, but much...More
My husband and I cycled from our hotel to Hoover Dam via the bike trails through Lake Mead. Both of us were impressed with the good quality trails amongst stunning scenery. The reservoir is a stark blue contrast to the sandy desert landscape. Very enjoyable...More
Calm, quiet, cold, beautiful. We swam in Lake Mead one morning in late March, and it was as refreshing as it was lovely. With the exception of two kayakers and some feathered friends, I think we had the entire lake to ourselves, and it was...More

It varies depending on which side of Lake Meade you are looking to go. It’s about an hour from Vegas if you stay on the Nevada side. If you drive another 30 mins or so you will pass over the Colorado River and through the Hoover Dam into Arizona and that part of the Lake Meade Rec Area. Your choice, can’t go wrong either way but I do recommend checking out the Hoover Dam if you are that close!
