Came across this gem as we were traveling from Rocky Mt Nat Park to Salt Lake. Get off the interstate 40 and drive this picturesque drive. You exit the highway onto 9 Mile Canyon National Byway just west of Myton, UT. Most of the byway...More

First, to enjoy the area, you need to get a pamphlet on the canyon from a visitor center (Price UT) or print one off the web to help you figure out the area. Then plan on spending most of a day exploring. I came down...More

The thing about traveling in the West is that you never run out of spectacular, picturesque sunsets and sunrises, mountain views and historical rock formations, national parks and mineral-rich canyons to visit and investigate and admire. It just takes time to see them all. And...More

First, this canyon is much longer than 9 miles. At first it is hard to see the petroglyphs and then once you see them you can spot them everywhere. There is so much history in the canyon. It is worth it to find information online...More

First of all gas up, get water and snacks and hit the bathroom in Wellington before you go. Second download stuff beforehand on your device because no service of any kind down there. Go to climb-utah and search for this and they have a intensive...More

If you want an easy way to find and see hundreds of pictographs and petroglyphs, then this is not the drive for you. If, however, you would enjoy driving through a dramatic canyon and viewing maybe 15-20 pieces of “rock art,” then you should head...More

Nine Mile Canyon, which is about twenty-five miles from Price, UT, is definitely worth the time and trouble to explore if you are at all interested in early American history and culture. The trip to and through the canyon is a photographer's paradise with mountain...More

Like travelling into another world. Old houses and cars. Cattle in the middle of the road. Surrounded by huge mountains of ragged rock. And of course, the petroglyphs, the best we've ever seen, and we've seen quite a few. Very few people visiting on a...More

Not for the main road, if you're coming in from Price. It is very nice, well paved and in good condition. Our rental car was just fine. There's a way to get in on the north end of the canyon but that does take 4WD.

I forgot to mention that the road is a LOT longer than 9 miles and it is not in a canyon. Interesting tidbit for first time visitors.
