First off, the building interior is stunning. The current exhibits (Jeffersons's library in particular) was fantastic to see. The reading room is amazing and beautiful. We took a 30 min tour to learn more about it...worhtwhile for interesting facts. The staff were some of the...More

Great architecture, history, and exhibits. I highly recommend taking the tour to ensure you get the full experience of the small details of the building. Also, there is a tunnel to the capital building which makes getting over there, which helps you skip long lines!...More

The Docent provided tour lasts 1 hour and is invaluable in understanding the history and architecture of the building. One can't really understand the thought that went into the building design without doing the tour.

We just completed our capitol tour and our guide recommended we take the tunnel passage over to the library of congress. The architecture was beautiful. I'm really glad we went. There was a beautiful Christmas tree in the central hall.

We went to the ASCAP Awards (in May) at the Library of Congress. Lovely reception afterwards with the awardees. The next day we toured the Music Library.

We saw a Gutenberg Bible and ancient maps and great displays. Take one of the tours if you can. And don't expect to get into the rotunda reading room unless you have a library card there. You can view it but you can't get in....More

We had been to D.C. several times but never visited the Library of Congress. We went with our 4&5 year old boys. At first we went into some of the exhibition halls and our littlest asked - "I thought this was a library where are...More

Quotes surrounding the great hall incredibly thought provoking. Some incredibly relevant. others telling of how times have changed.

I would plan 2-3 hours so as not to rush. The tour guides seem very good. My cousin works there so she took us around herself. Much more than a library!!

I agree, 90 minutes to 2 hours is a good time frame to put aside, that would give you enough time to either tour on your own or take a guided tour, plus have time to look around on your own if you do decide to do the tour... More
