The Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History comes a close second to the NY Museum of Natural History, but that's only because I grew up going to the NY museum. The Smithsonian has many wonders to see, but it is a full day trip. Our...More

It's a classic situation of dragging your kids to the places that your parents dragged you to 40 years ago. However, I loved this particular museum as a kid and my son loves it too. The dinosaur exhibit is closed for a couple of years...More

The gemstone collection is beautiful. The layout is easily accessible. The signs are easy to read and understand.

Great location. Lots to see pace yourself. Been here a few times but you will need a good few hours to watch the videos - see all the information - has some stairs and escalator/elevator options.

Like the other Smithsonian attractions, this place was free to get in and therefore understandably busy. As it is large there are plenty of exhibits to wander round and enjoy without feeling too crowded.

This is a very well laid out museum. The exhibits are positioned very well and lots of animals are put in positions as though they are active still. Great for picture taking.

Last time we were in DC we didn't have time to stop here. So glad we had time this trip, although it was a bit rushed. I could've spend hours walking through the gems and minerals and also in the lab on the first floor....More

Not sure how long you are in DC. But, State Plaza and Residence Inn seem both comfortable and in close proximity to all the historic sites in Washington DC. Hope you have a fun trip!

The museum opens at 10am. I have never lined up nor have I waited more than 1 min to enter. There is a security check and it goes quickly.
