The East Wing is open again and retrofitted with better accommodations for disabled. A new floor open on the roof has two galleries and a sculpture garden. You can see the old castle and the Capitol from up top. Exhibitions are contemporary and presentation is spotless. The old fountain dining room has reopened and the cafeteria by the passageway and... This gallery is gorgeous. Full of life - from the people, treasured artwork and mini-parks inside with benches and well-cared-for plants. The artwork is fabulous. The galleries are well organized. The staff is nice and knowledgeable. Plus - its free. All art museums should be free to the public and prioritized as a national gem. One of the best places... More

I've just visited this great exhibition. It's a real WOW. A retrospective of a great artist - Stuart David. Tens of paintings from all the stages of his career. There is a free audio guide in the net (come with your earphones). Highly recomended (Ends at March 5th, 2017).

I always regret allowing too little time to visit the various Smithsonian museums...I only had 1 1/2 hours on my last day in DC. The web simply doesn't have the impact of being IN THE ROOM with these stunning paintings...

The recently opened East Wing for Modern Art is fantastic. The structure is beautiful and the permanent collection very well placed over four floors

There is no place like the National Gallery if you love art. On this visit we explored the newly renovated east wing which has modern and contemporary art. The building by Pei is beautiful. The collection is excellent. Don't miss the top floor/roof with the blue rooster! The top floor currently has a wonderful Calder exhibit which is outstanding.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to the National Gallery. I loved the light filled atriums and French Impressionist collection in the neoclassical West building as well as the more modern art in the East building. I spent the entire day walking through room after room of beautiful art. I even loved the rooster on the roof of the East... More

This is an amazing museum, you can spend many hours inside and probably an entire day if you want to see it all. Great collection of masterpieces. They have an audio tour that is very helpful (also free).

This museum is one of the best art museums I have visited. Over the years, I have visited several Art museums including the Kunst Museum in Vienna and the Art Institute in Chicago. The museum is divided into West Wing (pre 20th Century) and East Wing (Modern and Contemporary Art). I spent about 6 hours in the European (14th to... More
