We were not planning on originally going here, but timing allowed us to take this in during one of the days we where there and we were glad we did. I would recommend it, even though it maybe is not on everyone's must see list.

A wonderful collection of paintings and photographs, with some sculpture. A wide variety of styles and subjects. So much to see, and it is free! Don't neglect to leave a donation.

I really liked this place. It has the portrait of all the presidents. The one of Lincoln is very unique. This is a place worth going to visit.

Although off the beaten path--I find it an oasis. The courtyard is amazing and I always find a new corner of paintings I have missed. Seek out the paintings of the native Americans--they are truly eye opening.

This is one of my favorite museums in DC. There are always interesting photographic exhibitions. The permanent collect is also fascinating: do not miss the Presidential portraits. Finally, the atrium is beautiful, ideal to take a break. After your visit, have dinner at the excellent Mediterranean restaurant Zaytinya across the street. Free admission.

The National Portrait Gallery is housed in the Old Patent Office Building in the Penn Quarter/Chinatown neighborhood of Washington DC. This interesting looking old building sits on an entire city block between F and G Streets and 7th and 9th Streets. The front door is on F Street but there is also a back door entrance on G Street. Great museum to walk around and view the many different portraits thru the US history. Make sure to see the presidential portraits. There is a nice atrium in the middle of the museum that you can sit in and take a break and grab a cup of coffee or snack.

Visited on presidential election day. Was able to take in the Presidential portraits and a bit of a special jazz exhibit. Thoroughly enjoyed it. I was impressed with both the exhibition design and information provided. Liked the multi-media approach. Made me more sure than ever that while the presidency is to be respected, our nation, our government is far stronger... More
