The Phillips is the leading museum in American Modern Art in the US. As good if not better than the Whitney. The collection is large and changes frequently. The neighbor setting adds to the charm. A must for any art lover.

I spent a delightful afternoon at The Phillips. What a beautiful setting and just the right size to enjoy and not feel overwhelmed. The collection includes some very familiar paintings like Luncheon of the Boating Party, a couple of Van Goghs and a Matisse. All in spaces that are very accessible and make viewing easy and comfortable.

I didn't go to any special exhibits. This was my first visit and I wanted to see the permanent collection. Truly enjoyed the Impressionism. Especially enjoyed seeing the Luncheon of the Boating Party. Long a Renoir fan, plus having read the book and seeing Seward Johnson's fun rendition of it, it's good to see the original. Some of the Van... More

Visited for 2 hours during a family reunion in DC. It reminds me of the Barnes museum in Philly as it was a single persons collection of 19th and 20th century paintings. I would highly recommend it for those interested in paintings of this era. Also has excellent museum store.

Amazing art in this gallery. Several pieces recognizable from art history class or postcards such as Luncheon of the Boating Party. Many beautiful surprises in each room.

I specifically went to this museum to see Renoirs Luncheon of the Boating Party painting after we read the book for my book club. It was spectacular. The colors are so vivid. There were also paintings by Pissaro I enjoyed. Some modern artwork that was nice but not really my taste. Really enjoyed the museum. Right nearby is the Anderson... More

The Phillips Gallery is at DuPont Circle, and its original owners had an impressive collection of Contemporary and Impressionist art, which they generously shared with the community upon their death. There is Degas, Manet, Monet, Renoir, Klimt, Picasso, Modigliani, and so many others. There are special exhibits as well, and only parts of the collection are shown at any given... More

So glad we came across this place. Fantastic free gallery with some amazing pieces. If we had more time, we would have paid the additional to see the special exhibits. As an aside, the "wax room" was definitely unique --- have not seen anything like that before!

This is great walk through a great private collection. There are lots of house-hold name artists and some not so known artists. They represent various styles over a few hundred years, mostly European and American. This is a great collection in a nice space that's clearly grown over time. It's about a 90 minute commitment.

My wife and I visited this mid-size gallery close to Dupont Circle mainly we both like modern art and because it was recommended by our DC tourism guidebook. The entry fee was around US$ 24 for both of us. We first visited the temporary exposition upstairs, which we did not find very interesting, and then continued downward. While some works... More
