One of the first museums devoted to modern art. Founded before the one in NYC. An enlightened patron of artists, Duncan Phillips was married to an amateur painter. Treasures include Renoir's Luncheon of the Boating Party and a small room of Rothko's work. Don't miss this gem.

We almost missed this gallery and it had some of the best paintings in D.C. The gallery is small and intimate. Every room has gems and major pieces in it. We loved this gallery!!

This was a wonderful respite from the heat! This museum has a little of everything, we really loved it. Great reviews as well from my teenagers who are not 'museum' lovers, having been dragged all over museums since childhood by their crazy mom :)

I visit here at least once a year, primarily to see Renoir's fabulous Luncheon of the Boating Party. I can sit for an hour just admiring only this painting. However, there are other superb paintings and sculpture on exhibit. There is an entrance fee (not much) and the food in their diner is superb and not overly expensive. Take the... More

We visited the Phillips to renew our appreciation of their fine collection. My favorite is the "Luncheon of the Boating Party", but other world-class works are also on display. Make time to visit this gallery- you won't be disappointed.

Wonderful smaller art museum. Good size collection but not overwhelming. As I recall, a good number of impressionist paintings and a really good gift shop.

The Phillips is an exceptional institution, and we visit it frequently. Not only do I continually revisit my favorite paintings, I enjoy most of the special exhibits.

This is an important and engaging collection, well worth a visit. The Phillips is beautifully curated in a "fun," complicated building!

I last came 14 years ago and held my breath to see if I would still like it as much as in 2002 - and I was blown away again! The collection is superb, unfortunately only about 30% on display, entry fee is voluntary, and the paintings are of the highest quality. In addition a fine bookshop and one of... More
