- Stephanie VSilver Spring, Maryland19 contributionsNew JFK exhibit at the Kennedy Center is a beautiful tributeThe new permanent JFK exhibit at the Kennedy Center is really special. It showcases President Kennedy’s, and his wife Jackie’s, appreciation and promotion of the arts. It is beautifully and effectively laid out. People of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy and learn from this exhIbit. You can even create your own artistic selfie! Definitely worth your time.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten October 4, 2023
- Kittygal 🇺🇦 🌻Los Angeles, California8,767 contributionsAlways Great to VisitOn my return trip (my first since The Before Times), I fit a stop in here to see an early evening performance of the hit whodunnit, Shear Madness. I allowed myself time to explore the nearby riverfront and environs (there's an actual water gate on the river that was where the Watergate Inn first did business. There's a great new exhibit on the lives of JFK and Jackie on the top floor, which I took time to peruse. A free guided tour of the center, which I took last time, is offered. I highly recommend it, as it covers the history of the center and how it came to be built. It was good to see crowds of visitors and the gift shop decorated for the holidays once again. Things are just about back to normal. Hopefully.Visited October 2023Travelled soloWritten November 16, 2023
- MsKieshaAlexandria, Virginia2,788 contributionsTerrace theatre is a beautiful theatreTerrace theatre is a beautiful theatre! Smaller than i imagined, but overall I had a good experience. I sat in the orchestra house right section and it was the perfect view! I am 5’9.5 and the seats were roomy and comfortable. The staff were nice and helpful. The concept of the show was good. I also paid for parking onsite which made my experience less worrisome than if I had not. I briefly walked around the gallery after my show and that was beautiful as well. I am glad I wore my mask though as there were a lot of kids and coughing everywhere. Otherwise, I had a nice experience and will be returning for more shows in the future.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten December 12, 2023

The cafe we ate at before the show was nice too. Kennedy Center is a very clean and well kept venue.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten January 9, 2024
- Bridget CLaurel, Maryland26 contributionsSwan Lake at the Kennedy CenterWent to see Swan Lake performed by the American Ballet. It was breathtaking. The stage, the dancers, all of the Kennedy Center staff were wonderful. When you arrive you are greeted at least once by someone who is offering to help you find whatever it is you're looking for. The building is majestic and impressive. The ballet was so delightful and received a standing ovation.Visited February 2024Travelled soloWritten February 23, 2024
- montanapescadoAlbuquerque, New Mexico1,467 contributionsTotally solid venue for a variety of performances.I've attended concerts, opera, and theater at The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Not only do they get outstanding shows, they are presented in a fine venue with interesting architecture and excellent acoustics. Transportation/parking can be tough, but it is within walking distance of a metro stop (for a healthy adult).Visited February 2024Travelled with friendsWritten February 29, 2024
- Diane SFairfax Station, Virginia196 contributionsOutstanding Performing Arts VenueThe Kennedy Center is the premiere performing arts venue in DC. It is a stunning facility with multiple theatres catering to different performance types. The terrace offers beautiful views of the Potomac River. Dining options are fine and there are others nearby. The free performances on the Millennium Stage is an amazing opportunity for both the public and the performers.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten April 27, 2024
- knowsnyc596 contributionsFree tours offered dailyWe went for a free one-hour tour of the interior. It was well-done and a joy to see inside many of its theatres. The Center offers frequent free performances as well as those you must pay for. There is a shuttle bus toad from the nearby foggy Bottom Metro stop, but we walked.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten June 8, 2024

Being a bigger person, I didn't feel like I was packed in the seat like a sardine. Was comfortable the entire show, which made the experience so much more fun for the whole familyVisited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten August 12, 2024
- jehenson81Washington DC, District of Columbia24,916 contributions2023-2024 Theater SeasonI decided that I would write an overall review of the 23-24 theater season. The season definitely had some good and some bad in it, but I will go in order. The first show in the general package was Girl from the North Country. It tells a story using 20 Bob Dylan songs reimagined. It was fun and interesting and I didn’t realize how many Dylan songs I’d actually heard before. The next show was Frozen. It was a blast and basically followed the movie but with some new songs thrown in. My only issue with it was the lead struggled to sing Let It Go which was a bit of a let down, but not everyone can be a powerhouse like Idina Menzel. Show #3 was Company and boy was it a weird one. I know it’s a revival of a classic, but I knew nothing about it going in. I liked the story, about half of the songs and the production was very well done. Another classic was up next, Funny Girl. I’d only ever scene the movie (once), but I really liked the show, the lead and all the songs. I would say it tied for best show of the season. The second to last show was Back to the Future: The Musical. Honestly, I was curious about this show and how they would set it to music. I will say some of the songs were fun, but the story is choppy with minimal segues between scenes. It almost seemed like they were trying to cram in the highlights from the movie to make sure they didn’t miss the things people liked. The highlight of the show was the actor playing Doc Brown and all his numbers though at least one of them served no purpose (but made me laugh hysterically). The final show was Mamma Mia. This was my other favorite of the season. All the songs are familiar to me and the story is fun. Overall not a bad season. Can’t wait to start the new one in October.Visited August 2024Travelled soloWritten September 6, 2024

We enjoyed visiting the special exhibition outside of lanterns for the Chinese New Year. The free concert of bamboo instruments could have been enjoyable, but squashed with hundreds of other people standing only was not the best. The flags and other exhibitions are interestng and a guide answered our questions very nicely.

The performance was amazing until they had random women sitting in the seat that were watching if you were recording, couldn't even look at a txt msg or time because they assumed we were recording, wasn't pleased with that what's so ever. It's upsetting we can even take at least a photo for the amount of money we are dropping for this performance but I understand their concerns but it was just upsetting that they had these women pretending they were customers but instead were little spys watching if you were recording or taking photos. I felt uncomfortable that I left the show early. Will never be spending my money for that ever again.

My friends and I were so excited to celebrate New Year's Eve at the Kennedy Center. We were seated on the tier 1 level on the right of the stage. The performers stayed on one side of stage. Everyone seated where we were had to keep getting up and leaning over ledge to see who was singing. I could hear the performance, but i couldn't see it! I want a refund!!!!!

I took a guided tour of this magnificent center and it was a wonderful experience. A volunteer docent led us behind the scenes and explained the history of the venues. We saw Presidential boxes and lounges gifted by China and Israel and so much more. If you love going behind the scenes...this is for you. And as a bonus, we got to rock out to Abba in one hall, as the sound engineers worked on the upcoming production of "Mamma Mia!"

The shows here are amazing - we usually do traveling Broadway musicals, some smaller other events. But the food is mediocre and overpriced, and the drinks are utterly terrible and super overpriced. Eat ahead of time and uber to the KC!

We caught the free shuttle from Foggy Bottom that brought us to the front door of the Kennedy Center. We then enjoyed the hallway of flags and the large bust of President Kennedy. We then really enjoyed the concert given by three members of the National Symphony Orchestra. What a lovely way to spend a winter's evening in DC.

We were not sure what to expect in a broadway stage performance of My Fair Lady. Turned out to be a great production with terrific actors and amazing sets on stage. The Kennedy Center is so elegant and makes you feel special no matter where your seat is the main theater.

The staff were extraordinary. We attended the play "ain't too proud" which was crowded and with the check for vaccination, I expected a long and slow process. I was quite surprised that both the electronic and paper lines moved quickly. Staff were constantly seeking to guide us to our seats. At the end, we met Patrick who volunteered to take a group picture for us and remi ded us to do a review.

I have been attending performances at the KC for over 30 years and have subscribed to the ballet series for over 2 decades. The performances are often superb, but the overall experience has degraded to the point where after this season I will no longer attend anything here. Abolishing programs so that everyone brings in a live cell phone ensures that every performance is interrupted at least once by a cell phone ringing. This past Saturday we paid over $43 for two very small cups of very low quality wine. It has always been a rip off, but now it has reached the point of complete absurdity. The audience is mostly dressed like bums or clowns and some people feel compelled to comment loudly on the performances as if the rest of care what they think. There are many wonderful things to see and do in DC - leave the KC of your list. If you want a comparatively civilized experience go to a ball game.

When I come into DC once or twice a year I look forward in seeing a production at the Kennedy Center. The Center is the next best performing arts center to Lincoln Center in NYC. This production of My Fair Lady was ever bit as good as seeing it on Broadway.

Can you bring a backpack with clothes into the Kennedy Center?

Has anyone sat in the box seats in the Eisenhower Theatre? Was wondering if it was worth the extra money of if the view wasn’t worth it.
Written December 27, 2019
I saw Hamilton from a box and I was excited because it was the last seat available. It wasn't worth it; the left side of the stage was obstructed. I felt fancy, though, lol.

I see a lot of guides to watch fireworks from the terrace. Can anyone watch 4th of July fireworks for the terrace, or is it a private party?

I suggest calling Kennedy center to inquire.

For anyone who has sat in the very front row - Row A in the orchestra - how high is the stage? I get tired of sitting back further and seeing heads in front of me rather than the stage. Thanks!!!

I never sit that close the music goes over my head. I try to sit about half way back in the orchestra or in the first tier

Which Kennedy Center parking garage entrance is most convenient as of 9/18? Anyone know? A, or B/C?
Written September 6, 2018
So far as I know, there's only one large parking garage underneath the Center. You can get to any venue using either the A or B entrance; both give access from the garage up to the Center itself, but if you want to avoid a long walk, it helps to use the entrance closest to the stage you're going to. If you enter the garage from the F Street entrance, the theatres are arranged in the following sequence: closest to F street -- Eisenhower Theater; middle -- Opera House; furthest -- Concert Hall. But if you don't mind walking, don't sweat it: you can get to any venue from either entrance. BTW, if you want to save some money, you can also park in the garage under the Watergate across F Street. Instead of turning left into the Kennedy Center garage, just turn right into the Watergate parking lot. If you want to find a map of the Kennedy Center complex and garage, you can find one by searching on Directions and Parking -- John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts.

We were given tickets to The Fourth of July at the Kennedy Center Roof Terrace for the picnic dinner and fireworks. What is the dress code? Are beverages such as wine, beer, & cocktails included?
Thanks in advance!

Too late to help, but I have no clue what they serve, but would guess that drinks will be sold. Due to the heat, I would assume that dress is casual and shorts should be allowed.

Hi Dottie
What sort of music do the play in the free concert?
Written June 17, 2018
The concerts change every Monday but they have them listed so you can see who will be there while you are in DC. I suggest going early as it’s first come first serve for seating. The performance is also televised.
Written June 18, 2018
We are planning to see the free show at 6 p.m. and would also like to take the tour in the afternoon. What time should we arrive to be able to tour and be done by 5 p.m. ?
Written April 15, 2018
Tours average about an hour, but can vary depending on the tour guide and how many questions the group has. Tours start approximately every 10 minutes during scheduled hours. If visiting on a weekend, remember tour hours end at 1 P.M.
