The estate has nice gardens, greenhouse with lots of orchids, and the main househas lots fabulous items that poviide a Look into the life of the very wealthy in the last century. When we visited they had traveling show of her Cartier jewelry, and Christmas trees with decorations inspired by the jewels. The gardens are worthy of return visits during... More

Hillwood is nestled in the grounds of Rock Creek Park - a beautiful, scenic spot. We took a guided tour throughout the house chock full of treasures collected by Majorie Merriweather Post. What I loved about the house tour was that we got to tour the entire house - Ms. Post's bedroom and bathroom - left intact. The kitchen was... More

It's nice but not for kids. You need transportation to get here. Very formal and some climbing needed

Even though I am not a fan of 18th century French and Russian art, it was great fun seeing the vast collection of both displayed in the Post mansion. I had the benefit of going on a tour with a guide who knew the collection very well and who brought the house alive by relating stories of Mrs. Post and... More

The Cartier exhibit of Marjorie Merriweather Post's jewelry drew my friend and me here. (The special exhibit was amazing and closes December 31st so hurry to see this.) I didn't know what to expect but what a good time we had. First we went on the docent's tour and discovered a fascinating woman as we listened to explanations of her... More

We had the unpleasant experience of driving to Hillwood one beautiful Fall afternoon only to be hounded by security over a silly issue. We had two small dogs in our car, who are very used to staying in the car for a couple of hours from time to time. We never let them stay in very hot or cold weather,... More

I didn't think it would take more than 3hrs to take two tour guides to see garden and collections. We could not stroll over whole places, and want to go there again later.

My sister found this hidden gem in Washington D.C. We booked a tour of Margorie Merriweather Post's Estate. It is on 25 acres of beautiful, esoteric gardens designed by Ms. Post-each garden is designed in a different manner, bringing a variety along with tranquility. The American ZEN garden is spectacular. The home is a museum for all her collections from... More

The Post family's wealth was unbelievable, and Marjorie Merriweather Post's collections throughout her life provide a historical look at the fantastic wealth of America's richest woman and how she provided the populace with a tour of a life most people can't dream of.
