Great way to spend a few hours. You are able to skip certain areas if not interested. Loved the Food hall and the Commercial area.

Very much worth a visit to see great art created by Americans from the early days of the country to the present. One must see is the Lincoln Gallery, a glorious space, filled with stunning cutting edge contemporary art. Great gift shop, short on souvenirs, but filled with beautiful crafts.

Don't be confused by some reviews here. This is a companion museum to the American Portrait Gallery. The building itself is wonderful, with its central courtyard and cafe. Free admission. Open 11:30 am to 7 pm. Easy access from the Gallery-Chinatown Metro stop. Be aware of security as you enter, the museum does provide lockers for storage. Limited photography is... More

It gives you a glimpse of what America is all about, through it's art and history. Will go back soon because it is just too much for one visit.

The building itself is beautiful. The art is fabulous - Monet, Van Gogh, and other artists are on display along with American art. There is also a restaurant.

Eh--overall this museum needs an update. I was told by a friend to visit Julia Child's kitchen, so I headed straight for that area upon arrival. The kitchen was a bit darker than expected. That's the thing about the exhibits, the ones I visited were moodily lit which made it a bit difficult to make out details. The descriptions were... More
