We have visited this area for over 35 years. Its a beautiful place that looks different with each season. We highly recommend taking the trails down to the river, take a fishing pole and a camera. There are many places that the kids can walk into the river and even swim. The river is very clean and beautiful in the... More

We hiked Long Point Trail. The trail was well-defined with a few climbs. There is one lookout that gives an amazing view of the bridge.

There is so much to do around the New River Gorge National River. The NPS always does a great job everywhere it goes, and this area is no exception. Make sure to check out either of the year round visitors centers for all the information you could ask for on this area, including road closures and delays to some of... More

Raised in the area of the gorge, and still look in amazement. This area is beautiful and is so stunning in fall. This area offered lots of hiking, fishing and rafting.

This spot is easily missed as it is one way in and one way out and just off the beaten path. Don't miss it. Well worth the drive and effort. We spent hours here and had lunch along the river, looking at the river, falls and the occasional trail that came by. A great set of waterfalls. The falls are... More

Next was Canyon Rim Visitor Centre with great NP Staff, heaps of Info & a great view of the NRG Bridge. Did the loop under the Bridge... More

We stopped in and were amazed at the sites. A must see to appreciate. We'll be back in the area next year and plan to stop in again but this time spend more time checking out the sites.

We were surprised to find that the New River Gorge is part of the National Park System. Very nice visitor center, interesting movie about New River and its history, very nice trails in good condition, campgrounds, boat launch site and great road going down into the river gorge and up the other side. Well worth a stop if in the... More

The New River is a contradiction. Only major river that flows North in the US. Starts in the Mountains of NC and then flows through Virginia and into West Virginia when it meets to Gauley River to form the Kanawha which in turn flows further downstream to join the Ohio. Contradiction in that in many places, it is a place... More
