This is a great place. Be sure to ask question of the staff. They are very helpful. They have a full whale skeleton on display with pictures on how they found it and prepared it. Some gifts that you can purchase in the shop and they play a video about the bears. The bear (and other animals) display is top... More

The info about the prep about the whale skeleton was well documented. Under an hour is time enough to spend here.

This area is gorgeous. Very peaceful while we were there - rarely passed a car. We kayaked, took some short trails, and drove through twice. With so much rainfall, the area is green and lush. Foggy and rainy while we were there but that just added to the experience. Kayaking was wonderful - we played with patient sea otters and... More

My family and I docked in Kodiak with a relatively short window of time. We hopped on the complimentary shuttle provided at the dock and were dropped off in the center of town at the city's visitor center. Directly across the street we found the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge Visitor Center. Since my boys had earned a couple badges elsewhere,... More

Set in the centre of Kodiak, the building is hard to miss. For a tiny town, this information centre provides excellent information as well very well informed staff.

First came on Saturday afternoon. One of the few things open on Saturday after 4pm. Great visitors center, nicely air conditioned, sample touchable fur pelts (which really are soft!), interactive exhibits, an introductory video, and a dedicated staff. I learned more about Alaska, Kodiak, and local things to do.

This museum is an excellent primer on basic area information. Very nice exhibits of a wide variety of wildlife. Good story on the whale skeleton upstairs.

This rating is for the associated Visitor Centre. I liked the displays - seeing the height of a standing bear, seeing the different salmon types. Was happy they were models rather than stuffed specimens. The whale skeleton and story upstairs was very interesting

Small information office that offered information on the parks, wildlife and efforts to preserve and protect animal and plants. Some static displays and Audio visual display. Great place to visit to find out about flora and fauna before exploring the park.
