- BarbaraSpencer, Massachusetts159 contributionsGreat family place.Awesome place with lots of history. The Dutchman’s Lost mine is a great story. People are still searching for it today! Great exhibits of American Indian, cowboys, and animals. The grounds are huge. 15 acres. The Apache land Movie Ranch became a Western movie Mecca hosting shootings of more than 17 television series. The Elvis chapel was pretty cool also. (air conditioned).Thank you for visiting. We hope to see you again!Written November 8, 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten October 25, 2023

They have a Groupon available so for around $8 you get a few drinks and access to the little museum inside. They staff is knowledgeable and very helpful on info on history and the area in general since you will want to drive up some more and experience the mountain.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten November 13, 2023
- Mike HPhoenix, Arizona114 contributionsIt was a lot more fun than I expected. There is a great little museum here, ice cream sandwiches and roasted nuts, and I have to say we had a lot more fun than I expected. Great little movie museum too! We had friends and family in from Washington, and they said it was the highlight of their trip, and we did a LOT of stuff in their week here.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten December 10, 2023
- DebRussell49Carman, Canada123 contributionsInteresting historyIf you look beyond the tacky Elvis Chapel, the rest of the outdoor exhibits and museum are very interesting. Lots of interesting info on the Lost Dutchman mine. Also information on a number of westerns that were filmed near here. Worth an hour!Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten December 12, 2023
- Robert HLynchburg, Virginia451 contributionsFun desert experienceOur group of 6 had a great time walking on the free outside trails and looking at the fun displays of life and humor. We did not pay to go inside the indoor museum. The Elvis Church, stage coach, Boot Hill, and many cacti were worth the visit. Make sure to stop by if heading into the Superstitious Mountains!!Visited January 2024Travelled with friendsWritten January 6, 2024
- khgl41 contributionsIf you stop someplace on the Apache Trail, make it this museumThis is an incredible, inexpensive, tiny, approachable museum about the Superstition Mountains, the Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine, local Native communities, and early settlers. My kids were fully engaged, read all the exhibits, and then wandered through the outdoor areas. We were probably only here an hour, but it was completely worthwhile, and like everyplace else in Arizona, the people who work here are SO NICE.Visited December 2023Travelled with familyWritten January 7, 2024
- ValerieB28Howell, New Jersey81 contributionsMust see!Definitely stop here either on your way to or on your way back from visiting tortilla flats along scenic rt 88. There are so many cool things to see and learn here. There are also short picturesque hiking trails. I wish I had kids with me to share the experience with.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 15, 2024

- Shannon S5 contributionsGreat spotNice small little museum but packed with lots of interesting things. We came at the end of the day so didn’t get much time to wander around outside before the fellow came along to say they were closing the gate. There is a model railway outside but it only operates two days per week (can’t remember which ones).Visited February 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten January 31, 2024
- patrick cMariposa, California38 contributionsGreat FREE outdoor exhibits and well done history museum!Great stop to see and learn about the history of the Superstition Mountains area. They have an operating 5 stamp mill (actually a section of a much larger 20 stamp mill) that was moved here, and was used to crush gold bearing ore to a sandy or almost powdery form for subsequent gold extraction. There is also an outdoor large scale model railroad that kids will enjoy, buildings that were once part of a set used for filming western movies, and a recreated Native American village. One of the movie set buildings is a chapel that was used in several films, including one that Elvis starred in. All these outside exhibits are FREE to roam around. The main museum building has a gift shop and a collection of indoor exhibits that cover the history of the area from the Native American inhabitants to the gold mining to current day. You will see lots of information on the legendary Lost Dutchman Mine. There is a small fee for the indoor exhibits, but it is well worth the cost and it goes to a great cause ..... preserving the history of the area for future generations to see.Visited January 2024Travelled with familyWritten February 7, 2024

Very informative way to kill a couple hours. There is a display of wildlife of Arizona that shows animals in their natural settings. There was several movies and television shows filmed there and they have a display poster and scrips. There are several displays outside and they have reenactments also.

We decided to visit the Museum as we were looking for something to do for half of a day. I am so glad we did! Even though it is small it is packed with fun memorabilia and history. The volunteers are eager to share the history and stories of the area with you. I made the mistake of wearing sandals as I would highly recommend having tennis shoes on. The admission price is only $7 for an adult.

We visited the Superstition Mountain Museum in March. The museum was small but very educational. We wandered through at our own pace. There were out buildings as well to check out. The church was pretty neat. They also had replicas of a jail and store that was interesting. Watch out for snakes! We didn’t see any that day but I guess they can be around the trails out behind the museum.

Wasn't sure what to expect but went to check it out anyway. It is a small museum, but has a decent set of displays that represent the life and history of this area. There is a guide there who added so much more local history through conversation. The outside of the museum is set up with a path that leads you along different displays, mostly about mining in the area. There is a memorial bench and area dedicated to 3 children and their father who perished in a plane crash near the site. This was very touching.

We walked through the indoor museum first and learned some history of the area but the woman who followed us around was intrusive. We would have rather walked and read ourselves. The we walked the loop outdoors. There are a lot of artifacts and we enjoyed the self-guided outdoor section.

Highway 60 east from Phoenix to Hwy 88 - signs on the Freeway direct you to Canyon Lake and Lost Dutchmen State Park. Highway 88 is also Idaho Rd. Take that North, through Apache Junction and you will come to the Museum. If you get to Lost Dutchman State Park, you have gone too far.

What do you consider to be the best vantage point for photographing the beautiful Superstition Mountains?
Written August 27, 2015
The Superstition Mountains are Amazing at any point of view; but if you go to the Mining Camp Restaurant you will be really close to them. Have A Great Time.

How do I get there using public transportation?
Written August 26, 2015
I do not believe you can, it's on a good road, and any taxi could take you. But I do not believe there is a bus that goes that way.
It's about 4 miles from the nearest bus stop.

Beside just looking, is there anything else to do? Walking is nice, but with a bad knee, I need some place to rest a while.
Written August 1, 2015
It is not a huge lot, and fairly even, the museum is not that big and all one floor. Not crowded so take your time.

There is a lot to see if you are interested in details. You can pass through quickly or spend a few hours. We have just installed a new DeGeazia exhibit titled "The Apache Collection", to view this collection and to get in depth information about our other exhibits, you can plan on spending a bit more time. We have out buildings, a 20-Stampmill, a new Garden Railroad exhibit under construction, and a lot of information from Apacheland.

Well behaved dogs are welcome at the Superstition Mountain Museum. We do request that you pick up after them. We do have a doggie station in the event you forget your little bag. We do not suggest that they come in the gift shop unless they are small and can be carried. Lots of stuff an excited tail might knock over. You be the judge. We love dogs.
