We love the Haunted Mansion at Disneyland over Disney World. We especially love the holiday overlay with the Nightmare Before Christmas touches. The ride is dark with a lot to look at for sure. I do wish they look your photo like they do in the Disney World one though. This time we grabbed some holiday popcorn at the cart right outside the ride entrance and loved snacking while waiting. Popcorn had m&ms and mini marshmallows in it!

Have done this ride before and it was okay, but this time with all the Christmas stuff it was much better. It was done really well (it might have been renovated since we were last here). The only downside was the queue after leaving the lift before getting a seat.. Not sure why it took so long, but otherwise it was really well done. Nice and simple ride with no jarring movements. Love the "ghost" effects in the dining room.

We went back to Disneyland as we often do for the Halloween update. Bummed out that they didn’t do the Space Mountain update this year as that is my favorite Halloween update.

But after that it has to be the Haunted Mansion’s Nightmare Before Christmas update. They revised it again and it is way worth revisiting. It looked like each room had an update including the foyer which I wasn’t expecting.

Go check it out!

Not a huge fan of this attraction but others absolutely love it. We went in October so it was also halloween themed. The cool thing about this one is that it looks like the room is extending above you. My view is, just go to every attraction you can in Disneyland - nothing really disappoints. It's always fascinating to see!

Not that scary on the inside or outside, The Haunted Mansion is a terrific option with little kids. Especially fun at Halloween!

My daughter and I returned to Disneyland after 20 years away from the USA and were looking forward to revisiting this ride. We were both so let down. Twenty years ago the House WAS a classic Victorian/Gothic haunted house, with creepy sounds.
This latest incarnation is just noise, trading off an indifferent movie, and the ghosts aren’t even as good as they used to be!
The “revamp” looks like the efforts of 100 otherwise-unemployed window dressers from Macy’s, using up leftover gift wrapping, to clutter the ride with “scary” presents.
Plus the “music” sounds like it was scored by Andrew Lloyd Webber on an acid trip. And the way we were rushed through, like shells in a belt-fed mortar!!
Finally, faced with a queue of over 90 minutes we did one of those Fastpass (?) things, to be told THAT meant a six hour wait, to 8pm.
As I said, major disappointment, waiting hours for a ride that was nowhere near as good as the one we experienced twenty years ago.

Opened in 1969, this is a Disney classic! Original plans called for it to be a walk-through attraction, but efficiency took precedence which is what you see today.

EXPERIENCE:
Being a Disney product, the exterior the mansion is well-kept with manicured lawns, looking like a stately manor somewhere in New Orleans. The tombstones in the graveyard are etched with the names of Disney Imagineers who designed the attraction.

After entering the mansion, your group is squeezed into a small room for a briefing. The doors close and a ghostly-toned narrative begins informing guests that they’re trapped and need to find their way out, though there aren’t any doors or windows. All of a sudden, the room seems to “stretch” as paintings on the walls get taller. You’re actually in a slow descending elevator which takes you to the loading zone below for the start of the ride.

The haunting room features a belt of “doom buggies” descending from an upper floor in which you get on while the belt is still moving (2 or 3 to a buggy) before being whisked away up another staircase.

The buggies can rotate 360° and automatically swivels toward scenes on both sides of the track. Keep in mind that this ride has been around since the 1970’s with special effects from that era, so don’t expect mind-boggling special effects. But, what they have isn’t bad and works well as the ride has to entertain folks of all ages. You’ll see “breathing” doors, a floating candelabra, things moving by invisible forces, a coffin lid being opened by a skeleton, a talking head inside of a crystal ball, ghostly figures dancing in a ballroom, talking busts, and an animatronic graveyard. The frosting on top happens toward the end of the ride. After passing by three hitchhikers, the buggies turn towards mirrors on the wall. A hologram of one of the three hitchhikers is projected into your buggy making it look like the ghost of the hitchhiker is right next to you. That freaked me out as a little kid but is quite entertaining as an adult, lol.

OVERALL:
Old school, cheesy fun. May it never die, buahaha!!

Havent seen the Nightmare Before Christmas so with this being themed that way, makes you not remember what it was like before. Still enjoyable.

Although I prefer the original version of this attraction, the Nightmare before Christmas overlay is still nice. Just wish it was every other year. :)

Our first time with the halloween/Christmas deco. I wasn't too impressed. Looks like they put cardboard and papier mache over the regular display objects. I like the ride mainly because it is long, and it gets you off your feet for a few minutes. The dining room ghostly holograms are the best part, IMO.
