Great For 1st time cavern visit

Beware! The last mile of the road is narrow. I was driving a 31' C class motor home. I had to pass a car on the way out and was holding my breath! Once down there is a large... read more

Beware! The last mile of the road is narrow. I was driving a 31' C class motor home. I had to pass a car on the way out and was holding my breath! Once down there is a large parking area and no problems turning around. The tour itself was an easy walk. Nothing steep or stairs. Good if you... More

We chose this cave because it was advertised as the easiest to get around in, even as an octogenarian. We learned that it was used by the miners as a place to live during the "Gold Rush". There are many large rooms that met this purpose, including one that served as a church with a pulpit and pews. We took... More

I have been working in caves for fun and as a professional national park naturalist and cave geologist... California Caverns is a gem. Located 32 miles from Angles camp 9 miles off 49 it is in the rural epicenter of the real mother lode. The cave is operated very professionally by the same folks who operate Moaning cave and Black... Through the big trees. The closest trail is easy, but the signage is terrible directing where to go.

My husband and I got a private tour of this cavern, since we were lucky enough to be the only people at the property at the time. The power within the cavern was off due to the Butte Fire occurred the month before we were there, so we explored the cavern led by flashlight. Unique experience! The guide was very... More

The visitor center is very nice, clean restrooms, friendly people to help you. The tour guides are very knowledgeable and always informing you of cautions because this is a natural formed cave so you do have to be careful. Restrictions, no backpacks, no purses, no video cameras. Of course this is for your own safety. Unfortunately to participate in the... More

This was an excellent choice for first timers and for anyone who did not want to do a lot of steps. They do offer more extensive and difficult tours for those interested; however, reservations are needed for those. In my opinion all caverns are beautiful and this one was no exception. Our guide, Clara, did a good job of explaining... More

It was our first visit to a cavern. We only took the shortest (1-hour) trip. It was a little damp so we were glat that we wore good tracking shoes. The electricity was out due to a fire a few months ago so we were given flash lights (and helmets), which surprisingly worked well in the dark cavern. You might... More

A very nice cave for good examples of many different types of cave formations. The walking tour (some low ceilings and slippery slopes) includes a pristine room with many forms and one of the largest columns in California. Great tour guide: Clarissa. We plan to return with reservations for the Middle Earth experience.
