This place is fantastic - it's a miniature redwood grove right in the center of Arcata. We parked and went for a walk - it's was nice and relaxing.

Big green canopy of huge redwood trees without a lot of undergrowth and we'll maintained trails. This is one of the places I take out of towners as it's easily acessible, right in town and beautiful any time of year.

The community forest is over 2,000 acres. It has many miles of nice hiking trails. Some for hikers only while other have mountain bikes and horses. Most of it is a beautiful redwood forest. I lived on one side of town and walked the part of the trail near there. Now I live in a different part of town and... More

An amazing park with miles of trails for walking, biking or running. Some trails are single track, some are dirt roads. It's my favorite place to run, but it does have hills. It is as pretty as the local state parks, with no entry fee. The city does some selective logging to pay for park maintenance, but it is very... More

Great spot adjacent to downtown Arcata, for hiking and mountain biking. None of the big old growth redwoods, but such a lovely resource right in the city.

Beautiful, peaceful, an unexpected gem. I was surprised and delighted that there is a community forest when Redwood National and State parks are close.

The Arcata Community Forest, established in 1955, is comprised of 2,350 acres of second growth redwood forest. It is just a few blocks from the edge of HSU and can be reached by car at the east end of either 11th or 14th Streets. If you'd like to hike there, suggest that you go to their website (noted below) and... More

One of Arcata's best features are the well-marked trails through a beautiful redwood forest, all located on the east edge of town. Easily located for parking at a variety of trailheads. I hike there regularly throughout the year, enjoying the seasonal changes and get good exercise on the trails (elevation and length optional, given your preferred routes).

Wonderful trails and so close to town. Definitely a good workout with lots of hills. Great place to hike if you have just a short time to visit but want to experience the Redwoods.
