I intended to take the 4 mile round trip hike to see the waterfall but we did not get too far. Probably less than a mile in, the trail narrowed and there was a steep drop on one side to the river. I have a great fear of this type of hiking trail; I can't blame it on my age (64). I am probably braver and a better hiker now than I ever have been. We have many trails of this sort where I live, but those drop into canyons (would you rather fall into a river or a canyon?). Therefore, I stick to coastal hikes or atop the bluffs and avoid the trails in the canyons. Despite the disappointment of not being able to finish the trail walk at Lake Clementine, we still got plenty of exercise, and we found the path to descend to the river bank. What a gorgeous vantage point to view the river up close. There actually are many trails here, but I couldn't get good information about which ones might be do-able for me from the ranger. My guess is that he took a look at me and decided I couldn't do any of them. This might be true. I would recommend this to anyone, even those of average fitness level or fears of heights/falling, as you can still find things to do here and enjoy the scenery. If you are adventurous and fit, you will enjoy it even more.

We walked down to the lake and dam. Be prepared with lots of drinking water as the walk back up to the entrance is a challenge. The area is beautiful and great scenery. Best to visit during the week when it is quieter than the weekend.

Upper Lake Clementine is minutes from Auburn, CA and has a rural, swimming hole vibe. We visited on Labor Day weekend and were surprised to find it was not overly crowded. The park is family friendly, with no alcoholic beverages, glass containers or dogs allowed. Life jackets are available for use while at the park. The road to the lake is a winding dirt road, so be prepared! Our daughter participated in a Jr. Ranger program about aquatic wildlife during our visit. Note, be sure to take the road to *Upper* Lake Clementine, as Lower Lake Clementine is for boating only. There is a $10/vehicle admission fee.

We originally intended to launch our kayaks on the upper lake beach, but it was closed for the season. This turned out to be a good thing, because by the time we even got close, working our way upstream from the boat launch by the dam, our tired arms could not fight the current. We would have never made it back had we launched at the beach. That said, we went in April, and were told by locals that they had never seen this much water go over the dam, so the current is likely not normally this swift.
The kayaking itself was absolutely awesome - such peaceful, and stunning scenery! There were lots of little waterfalls rushing down the hillsides, and that was the only sound we heard. On this Friday in April, we had the entire lake to ourselves. What a wonderful place to paddle! Planning to come back in summer.

The guy from Sheraton Grand Sacra take me here! We found the lake! Was very hot day! I remembered bring swim suit (ONE PIECE OF COURSE), so when we get to this lake, I take off shirt, go to area where look as rocks form an area! This area, dip my feet, go somewhat in! Hey Mister Corona Virus still around, not wanting take off mask, so somewhat in! The area surrounded by rocks, not go beyond that, is not too deep! Ah yes, there was goose! It seemed become friends with me! It even come close, the guy says, "Be Careful, Tiger! Do not touch it!" The hour and half, it seemed be friendly to people, hope as gosling was not "imprinted" on people! Then we hiked to the bridge area! Yes a great place to cool off and to hike! I welcomed that because as say, Mister Corona Virus still around, hotel swimming pool temporary closed! At least people were keeping Six Feet Or More Distancing!

Long narrow lake off the beaten path, and quieter than many local lakes. Lovely kayaking with plenty of steep wooded hills either side. Interestingly, no outtake - the flow just cascades over the spillway as the river flows.

Launch your kayak at upper Lake Clementine. The water is clear and still. The water is shallow and you can see every detail of the river bed. It is as if you are floating in air. No power boats are allowed on the upper portion of the lake, so it is quiet and serene. Early in the morning is best. Lots of waterfowl on the water.

A beautiful and not too difficult hike. Save $10 parking fee and park on the El Dorado County side of the bridge. My favorite hike in this area! So many trails too, so don't take my word for it, check it out for yourself!

This is a great 4 mile hike! Dirt path, lots of shade. Picnic table near the falls to rest and have a snack. Lots of walkers and bikers. We had a toddler thinking it was stroller friendly but it isn’t. Some very narrow areas with large rocks making it difficult to navigate. There were lots of kids ages ages approx 7 and above walking - I just don’t recommend bringing a stroller.

If you look across the lake there is an outcrop of rock. In history it is said to be a place where bank, train, an any type of robber took the money and went there to hide it. It is also a meeting place for outlaw gangs to meet up....history, gotta LOVE it!

Hello! So when going to take this hike how do I make sure I am taking the 4 mile hike and not the 15 mile hike? I heard there are many hikes and I’m fearful I’m going to die on a 15 mile hike! Please advise! Thank you! Plan on going this weekend.

Is the hiking trail kid friendly? Im somewhat of a beginner and will be taking my 2 year old daughter. Steep?

First of all, your main consideration should be the vehicle you own. If you have a high carriage SUV or pickup truck, either entry should be fine. The lower entrance is paved. The hike at the lower turn-off is very steep, not recommended. By the time we we leaving the lower part of the lake, others were arriving towing a boat-scary on that narrow road. We went to the upper entrance and simply took a look at the road, retreating to Auburn Ravine for our picnic. We were advised by the ranger that the road wasn't made for our car. There are parks and trails in Auburn that would definitely be a better bet for your toddler's safety.

Can you still launch at the boat ramp. We just purchased a 21' pontoon boat and are looking for some lakes nearby to do some day boating before winter. We live in Clipper Gap. Also, our motor is a 2 cycle. Allowed? We are retired seniors just looking for a quiet place to go boating. Thanks

Great fishing! Swimming was good at the opposite end of the lake.

I've never been to Lake Clementine and I will be kayak camping at campsite 1 this summer. Is the closest parking and boat launch on Upper Clementine Road? Does the campsite have a beach that I can haul my kayak onto to and unload (vs a dock)? Will I have to carry my cargo kayak over shallow parts? Thank you.

Victoria,
Did you take this trip? I am doing the same thing next month and I'm wondering all the same questions but I can't find any info. How was it?
