Built in 1880 and little changed since, the Cumbres & Toltec Scenic Railroad is the finest and most spectacular example of steam era mountain railroading in North America. Its equipment, structures and vast landscape exist today as if frozen in the first half of the 20th century.

We have done the C&TSR three times, and sent our grown kids once also as a gift. It is such a great ride. There is just nothing like the Rockies! Breathtaking scenery. One of the times we went was in late May and it was rather chilly and off and on rain. You climb to over 10,000 feet, so bring... More

We have been of this train many times , hope to go many more times . It's a beautiful , peaceful ride in nature. It's more than that , in you get a piece of the past and how things were done so long ago. Let your mind wander on all the things you can see .

What a great day on the steam railway. The scenery is to die for. Autumn is such a delightful time for an exquisite setting. While the temperature could have been a few degrees warmer, it was a great day, all round. We took the Antonito to Chama and that was a great way to go. I wouldn't recommend only doing... More

We took the train on October 11th. There was still plenty of color in the area, so the ride was spectacular. We had so much fun! We decided on the tourist car, as it was not nearly as crowded as coach, and not as expensive as the Parlor Car...which is the 21 and over car. That said, since we attended... More

Riding the bus from Chama, NM to Antonito, CO, I rode the train back to Chama. The fall scenery of the aspens turning golden was pretty - but repetitive. The open air car was a welcome reprieve from the stuffy Tourist car and gave an up close view to the local scenery.

Antonito was quite windy and you need at least a warm sweatshirt I was glad I had a scarf! We rode in the adult only (21+ only) parlor car. It was very relaxing. We had a great time. You can walk through to ther cars. I wish I had known there was a very knowledgeable speaker in one of the other... More

I'm sure I would have had a better time on this steam locomotive train trip had I known where to sit. I purchased a Parlor Car ticket. The accommodations and service were fine, but on the trip from Antonito to Osier, if you happen to be on the right side of the train, about all you're going to see is... More

Great train ride. We spent up to be in the adults-only parlor car....WELL worth the extra money. The parlor car was the last car, aka the caboose, so we not only had direct views out each side, but could also stand outside on the back of the train -- COOL! It is a long day so I would not recommend... More

We loved the trip to where we stopped for free lunch which was awesome. We had the turkey, Thanksgiving dinner basically. Second have of trip to Chama was a little more crowded so not as enjoyable. So happy we did this. Took up a full day and was a great experience. Highly recommend. And we saw fall colors.

Not much to add to all the other great reviews here other than to vouch for the greatness of the parlor car. It's like traveling back in time and enjoying a 12mph train ride (for 68 miles) like it was meant to be experienced. Do it at the end of September and you'll have jaw-dropping golden Aspen colors at every... More
