Once a prosperous silver mining town, the silver disappeared, the people moved out and the ghosts moved in. Twelve empty buildings stand as an eerie reminder of the community that was.

This was a beautiful drive and a lovely place to go while in Aspen. The town of Aspen is pretty weak in terms of scenery compared to what’s surrounding Vail on the east and west so we were spoiled with the views. Glad we drive...More

My wife and I stopped here while staying in Aspen. Well worth the drive and easy to find. Fair amount of parking and an easy trail to follow. Several nice buildings to explore. Also, the drive is scenic and worth a few photo stops.

We chose to not pay the $5 fee so we did not go walk around in the Ashcroft Ghost town area for this trip, although, in times past when we have visited this area, there wasn't a fee, so we did go through the ghost...More

Hike from Ashcroft and marvel at the primitive conditions of this ghost town/mining village. The gorgeous hike along the river is just lovely.

If I have the location right, its right off of the road heading into Aspen. Not much to see from the road and hard to find parking as it was on the side of a cliff. We couldn't stop as there was no where to...More

Hi there! I believe you might be referring to Independence Ghost Town, which is 18 miles outside of Aspen on Independence Pass (highway 82). There is a pull off with a few parking spaces (they do fill up during busy times, though folks often park...More
