This is a LONG hike to a beautiful lake in a pristine setting below Capitol Peak. If you have there energy you can scramble up to the summit and traverse the highly exposed Knife Edge. This was a wonderful place to see the fall colors. Road up to the trail head was narrow and bumpy, but I saw many sedans in the parking lot who had made it all the way to the top. Watch out for hikers and cows in the road.

If you are looking for a good, long day hike near Aspen, the Capital Creek Trail to Capitol Lake will do it. 14+ miles (round trip) and 2500 feet of elevation gain take you to a lake above the tree line, and at the foot Capitol Peak, a 14er that can be reached if you want to turn this into...
