Do it - bike from Glenwood to Aspen (or maybe Carbondale to Aspen)

This paved trail along the river is easy and relatively flat. We walked for about 1 hour round-trip but could have walked longer. The rushing water, snow-covered rocks, & aspens along the banks, were lovely and peaceful.

We biked from Carbondale to Aspen and back and yes, we worked up quite a hunger and thirst. Impeccable scenery with Mt. Sopris, Roaring Fork River and fall colors. It was especially fun to the bike the last few miles into Aspen (hard surface gravel) along the river. Fall colors were in their glory.

I would recommend taking a walk on the Rio Grande trail at any time of year. The Aspen Parks Department keeps it plowed in the winter months. With no car traffic around it feels like an oasis year around.

For walkers and runners and joggers and bikers and sight-seers, the Rio Grande Trail follows the course of the Roaring Fork River, between the river and State Highway 82, between Glenwood Springs and Carbondale, before heading east to continue paralleling Route 82 to Aspen, a distance of about 50 miles, all paved. It is built upon the Aspen Branch of... More

This is a great trail to walk or bike from Aspen towards downvalley since it is downhill. The trail goes about 50 miles so you can go as far as you want. Most the way you're walking or biking besides the river. It is convenient since it is paved,

My wife and I stayed in Aspen at The Limelight Hotel. Great stay. On her birthday we searched for the Rio Grande trail head/ parking area in town but discovered that there was no designated parking area in town that we could find. We parked conveniently next to a park in town(with the help of our parking pass from The... More

This is a great trail with beautiful scenery and the sounds of river and wildlife for miles. It was a perfect place for my husband, who uses a scooter for mobility, to be able to walk with me and the dogs. Great trail!

A beautiful bike trail from Carbondale to Aspen and return. It's along the old railroad grade so their are no steep hills, just a pleasant ride along the Roaring Fork. The trail is across the river from the highway and is car traffic free crossing only a few roads nearer to Aspen.
