Just a few steps out of downtown is Smuggler Mt. whether you walk or mountain bike getting to the overlook is worth the effort. It is most amazing to look down on town and across the valley to Ajax. Do it in the morning and your day will be better!

This is a good hike and very popular with locals and tourists. You can actually drive in your car nearly all the way up but majority of people park on the parking lot all the way at the base and go up. Bikers use this trail too.

Smuggler Mountain is always a very nice hike because of the beautiful views. I suggest you go out no later than 9am so that you are not hiking in the beating sun.

We parked and walked up the steep-ish incline switch-back to the top of Smuggler Mountain. Breathtaking views of the town of Aspen and surrounding mountains. Excellent cardio workout, which is why it's a favorite of locals. Take lots of water and wear a hat.

This is easy hiking on a somewhat overly populated trail but affords astonishingly gorgeous views of our valley. I think it's a must do if you are in Aspen.

this is a favorite mountain for locals, who use it as a fitness hike, as it's right in town. There is a road leading upward from town to a good elevation where Aspen Mountian and the town of Aspen can be seen below...People, dogs, bikes all hike the mountain.....some people do the hike a couple or more times a day....fitness... More

Very popular trail to hike in Aspen, do it early the sun can get awfully hot on the mountain in the afternoon plus certain times you need to be aware of the afternoon thunder that rolls in. Great views of Aspen. Worth the trip and moderate hike.

If you're new to the mountains, but want to know a local place to stay fit without spending wads of cash at a gym...this is the place to go! The altitude will give your lungs a workout, and the degree of difficulty isn't too bad for "out of towners." Dogs are welcome (pick up after them, please) and the scenery... More
