The five grandkids got a kick out of playing in the snow in June. They had a snowball fight in their flipflops and shorts. Great view.

We drove from Aspen to Colorado Springs via the Pass. This was one of the most beautiful drives in America. This is a must do.

When we went it was still very snowy and the landscape looked other-worldly. Spectacular views and scenes. Definitely a must-Do.

Great driving road and views that can't be matched. Fairly well traveled, but there's a neat little hike at the top along the Continental Divide

We took this drive which was 1.5 hours extra but we loved it! We saw many snow boarders heading up the pass. We saw so many interesting peaks and cabins it was a grand adventure.

Even in June, this is covered in snow! The snow banks were higher than the car. It was a snowy trail to the viewpoint of the surrounding mountains. It was worth it though! The views are phenomenal!

I would give yourself a couple of hours to go from Leadville, through Twin Lakes to Aspen, especially if you want adequate time for some photo stops. It is a beautiful route and there is no reason to hurry. But you may need... More

Can one drive from Leadville through Indepedence Pass? I had hoped I could drive via 82, but Google Map is not showing a route. Anyone ever driven through here? I ask because the drive from Fort Collins to Leadville is a lot of shorter, and the hotels are a lot cheaper too.

Yes, you can drive from Leadville through Independence Pass. It's the route we took last year. As others have pointed out, the pass doesn't usually open until late May. But your trip in July should be fine.
