We dropped by on our way back from Caracol mid-May. It’s dirt road driving here. There is no entrance fee and we were the only ones there. We brought a flashlight which was useful. It was a little eerie since there was thunder and lightning when we arrived so it was loud inside the cave. We would have gone further if it wasn’t for the unpredictable weather. It doesn’t look like a long cave.

Not easy to reach, but if you are this far out, then you are probably on your way to or from Caracol. The roads ruff in spots. There is a nice paved trail down to the mouth of the cave. Cave is easily accessible, no crawling or climbing. There are bathroom facilities available.

After a bumpy 30 mile drive on not so good roads (4 wheel drive or high clearance vehicle recommended. We had 2 wheel truck with an excellent driver.) we arrived at Rio Frio Caves. What a pleasant place for those of us who are not pro spelunkers. We scrambled over rocks and into the cave full of stalactites, stalagmites, a river, and sand bars. You could walk through to the twin entrance if you are willing to climb over things. They have recently added a picnic area and bathroom facilities near the road. Roads are being improved so be ready for construction. Definitely wear comfy hiking shoes or sandals. The best part is that we were the only ones there!

We had a blast climbing on the paths and rock of this cave. It had some interesting shaped stalagmites which resembled a nativity scene. It has a beautiful river running through it.

The road to the cave is another very bumpy and narrow one, but the drive is not very long and the cave only a few meters from where you park.
This is an easily accessible, big cave and as you walk inside, you can even see the other end of it. Pretty spectacular and makes for very nice pictures!
Excellent stop on the way back from Caracol or a day in Pine Ridge Forest.

The place is huge. It's kind of a cave or maybe a REALLY wide arch, regardless, it's very cool. Both in appearance and temperature. My wife and I had the place pretty much to ourselves. When we came in two couples were leaving and while we were there four guys from England came in for a short visit. We spent close to two hours just enjoying the place.

This awe-inspiring stop initiates visitors to the significance and majesty of Belize’s system of caves. It’s a lot of driving for a short stop, but the mini-adventure is absolutely worthwhile.

Incredibly Large Cave to walk and take in. Very accessible from the parking lot.
The area is right smack dab in the middle of the Forest as you will see as you enter the road that leads to it. We unfortunately did not see any other wildlife except bug. The entry was huge. You can walk in and around to see it in it entirety. The geological structures are fascinating. They is a nature walk around the tunnel as well. Bring bug spray but worth it. Good for young children too.

My tour guide took us to Rio Frio Cave, and I'm so glad we visited! It's pretty easy to access, and the walk along the river, with sunlight filtering through the trees as you approach the cave is magical. Climbing around inside is pretty easy, too. There's light coming in from two ends, so visibility is pretty good. The best part is there was virtually no one else there. I wish I had seen some bats, but maybe we visited at the wrong time of day.

We had a tour guide for the day for mountain pine reserve. This was our first stop. It was amazing to walk through a forest area and arrive at this wonderful cave structure. We hiked through it to find a sandy beach! My son spent time digging in the sand. We could climb the rocks and get a view from the higher ground. It was a great experience. It is very unique.
