Impressive church from a couple of centuries ago. Beautiful as all Spanish constructions were. The month of October, the best time to visit, as its the month consecrated to the Virgen del Pilar. Beautiful, don't miss it

This is the church of the Rosary Virgin and She is place up in the main altar. The main altar is beautiful and all with gold. Now that is Holy Week the Jesus of Nazareth caring the cross, this Jesusis one of the most beautiful images you are going to see in the world. Guatemala had the best colonial carvers and the best stucco in gold. An amazing church to visit. It a Bacilica, so it’s huge and there is a convent next door that is being reconstructed

The exterior is one which I would describe as just "somewhat unique" for its lack of some typical exterior features of a church (no towers on the front side & no big dome above "except for some saint statues" right above the front facade) although yes this site quite likely is not just a church but a combo of church & convent (as are a number of Santo Domingos visited elsewhere but those with more "church-like" exteriors in comparison to this one); but with that being said, once stepped inside is to see the interior of really "quite a bit" of greatness (with a number of colorful nice-sized statues most of which along the two sides of the "main aisle" & also a number of sizeable paintings spread out over the interior).
So yes, a pretty worthwhile "but optional" visit is to this church although there are also a number of other churches just in the 10-to-15-minute-walk vicinity: one smaller than this but with a "quite attractive" exterior which is Church of Santa Rosa of Lima which I entered briefly and saw a "great portrait" of her; the one likely called San Francisco with a "sizeable dome" above but which I just saw from some distance; and the "most important" of all churches in the area namely Catedral Metropolitana with a big colorful dome & also smaller domes above and beautiful paintings & super-sized medals inside (with also right in its proximity Plaza Mayor de la Constitucion with its "great space", Palacio Nacional with a "fairly impressive" interior to see on like their hourly tours, and Mercado Central for "souvenir shopping" & nice local meals). And also, for the regular shopping of necessities & such or just for browsing the shops, there's the pretty-nice "pedestrian street" namely 6 Avenida (lined on both sides with nice-looking stores including a multi-level mall).

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to take pictures in this beautiful church. Mass was going on at the time, so we were fortunate to be even allowed in. Really beautiful.

This is kind of an iconic hotel in Antigua. Its really beautiful, has continued growing and personnel are very nice, and always ready to make it easy for you. Sometimes rooms are kind of far away from the main desk. But is a large hotel

I ended going to this church because the map that came up for La Merced took me to a housing development. Google maps failed and my driver did not know where La Merced was located. Catedral Santo Domingo is worth visiting.

In zona 1 (historical centre) Iglesia Santo Domingo has a massive architecture. Neoclassical, built shortly after 1800, it is easily reachable walking through Parc central.
