Lake Atitlan, It's the most beautiful lake in the world. I do volcano tours and am opening a bed and breakfast soon right by this beach.

if Panajacel is called Gringotenango, then places like San Marcos la Laguna or San Pedro la Laguna should be called Freakatenango... Except with some very few places in India, I never saw so many freaks on one place like in the villages around this lake....More

Avoid Panajachel and go to the small little towns around the lake. You can go to eco hotels, air b&b's, pensiones, regular hotels, etc. There are a lot of expensive traps for the tourist looking for the natural, eco, kind of environment. Do your research...More

It takes about 3 hr drive from Guatemala City to Lake Atitlan, the roads are not easy, but once you get there is truly gorgeous, there are restaurants in the area and places you can walk and get a souvenir.

An absolutely spectacular lake, with 3 very large volcanoes. What more can you ask for? You can hire a boat for super cheap to take you around the lake. They will stop where ever you want. There aren't many beaches accessible in the main town,...More

One of the most majestic places I’ve been in Central America. I’d highly recommend to anyone. Take a boat ride and climb San Pedro if you make it out there. It is well worse the expense and effort, respectively.

Clean, beautiful, and peaceful. Surrounded by volcanoes, small villages, and some small (but really comfortable) resorts. Great photographic site.

My favourite destination in Guatemala. The lake is surrounded by 3 volcanoes and you can choose different towns to stay which all have its own charme and attract different kind of people.

Five days on the lake is a good amount of time. Panajachel is easily the biggest town. It has the most restaurants and shopping, but I enjoy staying in one of the smaller towns. The boats to and from the villages are very... More
