Gorgeous lake surrounded by volcanoes. We took a boat across the lake and enjoyed a lovely lunch in Pachy. The boat ride was about 45 minutes and allowed beautiful views of the hillsides. The people of the villages were delightful selling their fabrics and jewelry. A good opportunity to immerse into the culture for a couple of hours.

We went on a narrated boat ride around Lake Atitlan with our tour group. The lake was beautiful. What an exotic setting with all the volcanoes surrounding the lake. Charming little villages decorated the shorelines in a few places. A relaxing hour or so while in Guatemala!

It is absolutely breath-taking, There water as far as the eye can see (literally you can barely see the other side) water is very cold, Very beautiful and calm. Sunsets here are to die for.

We stayed in this area for four days. The lake is beautiful. The different communities on it are interesting, and very different one to the other. Opportunities to relax, as well as to see new sights. Panajachel is very busy; good to go through, but I'm glad we didn't stay there--very touristy. We made Santiago our base, and took ferries... Our cousin had told us that he had been bowled over by the unexpected beauty of Lake Atitlan and now we know why. The volcanoes cradle the water, with settlements clinging to steep cliffs in places. You can watch villagers living their lives at the water's edge: washing clothes, fishing, mending boats etc and then walk up into small villages... More

A beautiful lake comparable to those in the Pacific Northwest. A cruise offers views of the villages of indigenous people and volcanos. We found it to be relaxing and scenic.

I spent a week at Lake Atitlan for my advanced diving certification, and I was impressed at how beautiful the scenery was and also how much there was to see and do. There are several towns around the lake, each with its own unique character, and there's fantastic hiking in between the towns. There are also Spanish classes, cooking classes,... More

Not to be missed! Atitlan is one of the most beautiful lakes in the world! It is surrounded by three magnificent volcanoes. From any vantage point, the view is incredible! And the Mayan villages surrounding it are very interesting. You will see many of the indigenous people working much as they have since the beginning of time.

Scenic view. expect windy weather. In december was very windy!! Scary! yet, a nice stay. The lake has around 10 small and beautiful Maya villages around it. Transportation is mainly by boat from Panajachel. Take the collective boat!

Stayed a few night around the lake, would have liked to stay a lot more. It's one of the nicest places in Guatemala that I got to see. Would love to go back.
