The Lost World Pyramid was built around 900BC and is one of the oldest in Tikal; it was used for astronomy by the Mayans. You pass through it on your way to Temple IV and it is a must.

I am out of shape so I saved my energy to climb the temple with man made steps. If you sit on the ledge and some stands above you it looks great! The walk thru the jungle is awesome with spider monkeys every where and Toucan birds etc. there are attack ants so do not wear open shoes or sandals.
Very hot and it was the winter season. I wore shorts and tank top and did not get bit once. Just use a lot of deet. I also wiped on with the wipes and then tied the wipe to my shoe laces. Also found it too hot to wear a hat.
Watch where you are walking so you don't trip. I would say it is a moderate hike to each location. As I said I am really put of shape.
Buy plenty of water. Luckily there was a shuttle that I jumped on so I didn't have to walk back thru jungle again to get to parking lot! I was soooo worn out!!!! There was a boy in a wheelchair so I guess the shuttle can take you to the sites.

In the shade: It is a great attraction. Ask for a tour guide from Gem Tours. Specifically ask for Jose Moreno. His English is like a native.

El Mundo Perdido - Lost World - is 1 of our favorite early morning haunts at Tikal. Lots of wildlife!

This area had lots of wildlife as well. We spotted Tucans whilst the monkeys were climbing in the trees. Also many other birds.

There are fewer tourist in this area but you will pass a sign directing you to it on your way to Temple IV, which the rest of the tourists who are running to climb what amounts to a 10 story stairs up to the top for a view of tree tops.

Go with a guide, for us it added greatly to our overall experience. Roxy is amazing and is reached through the Tikal Inn

Not sure what was lost, actually I was a little the day I found the path to this great little place. The structures there are not anymore impressive than any other in the park BUT for me and my son this was a cool place. There were both monkeys and parrots in the trees in this complex when we were there.

Sunset tour doesn't take you here so we found it on our own the next day. I'm not sure why, but we just loved the feel of this spot. It was the favorite area of ruins in Tikal for both my daughter and I.
