Wow what a treat, even though I'm a long time customer, every dive with these guys is like my first! They spoil their divers. I've brought along many friends and family to dive/snorkel with these fabulous humans and everyone leaves feeling like they are a new part of the Utila Cays Diving family. Bogdan, Mike, Captains Edgar and Alton. Their smiles when I hop on the boat are contagious and even the time on the boat in between dives is as enjoyable as the time underwater. Great stories (Watch out for the eels, ha ha) Great Music, Great Service. Even if you don't see a Whale Shark which of course everyone hopes for, or the visibility is bad, or the weather doesn't let you get to the North Shore, enjoy the company of these folks. There will always be another dive, but you'll never forget the great service and great time. Sometimes the destination isn't as good as the journey, right fellow travelers? This crew will always make a great journey, and if the universe is aligned, the destination will bring you a whale shark, or dolphins, or a nurse shark or 2.....!!

We stayed on the South Shore, and arranged for a fisherman from Pigeon Caye (Mr Herman 504-3333-0206) to take us out to Water Caye for the morning ($50usd pp). We had time to snorkel around the entire island. The snorkeling is very good.
The coral is healthy, with lots of sea life. There is a very strong current to get around the one end though, so you would need to be a strong swimmer, or be with someone who is, in order to snorkel the complete circumference. A very nice fellow greets you upon your arrival to the island, and all guests pay a $3 fee. There are rustic chairs and picnic tables available to use. And there are washrooms. You can bring your own food and refreshments as there are none available for purchase there. We were the only visitors when we arrived at about 9:30 a.m. Closer to noon, a bush's market boat arrived with several people. Apparently you can arrange an excursion through them. Water Caye had some of the best snorkeling of our Utila trip. So we would certainly recommend you go check it out the white sand, pretty palms, and prettier water.....enjoy.

This accommodation is so unique that I am still pinching myself over it existing. We rented a private island! I thought only the rich and famous could do that. Of course, the place is not a mansion—think cabin glamping with a beach. But it is all yours. No one outside your invited guests are on the island during your stay. For three days, my husband and I had our own island. I enjoyed swimming and snorkeling freestyle.
We contacted the manager, Barry, by email and were able to pay via Paypal to reserve the accommodation. One delivery of items per day is included in the cost, with payment of the individual items. You can order more beverages, food, or water. We requested aloe because the sunscreen we bought in town was garbage and we both suffered severe burns. Please bring your own sunscreen!
There are numerous hermit crabs living under the building, who are happy to eat your food scraps and are entertaining to watch at night when they come out!
At the time, power to charge small electronic devices and lights is all that was available, powered by a solar array and batteries. Not enough to power a fan, though. Bring your own battery-powered fan. No air conditioning, of course. Nights without wind can be extremely hot and stuffy.
There is a gas-powered stove and 2 gas-powered refrigerators, all of which worked well, and smelled of bleach. Toilets flush from salt water, and sinks and showers source from rain-water tanks. You must bring your own food and drinking water, and there are plenty of pans and utensils from everyone before you that did not know this. The best side to swim is to the left of the dock.

For me I found Utila difficult to enjoy. I am not a diver, Utila is really a divers destination. Yes there is other things to do swim & snorkel.
It was very hot in June! We have been in the Caribbean, Central and South America before so heat was expected… but not as bad as it was. Part of that for me was the lack of getting out of the heat anywhere but the air conditioned hotel room.
I was eaten up by sand flies!!! If you are sensitive to bug bites take this warning seriously buy bug spray and use it. Baby oil did nothing. Unlike Roatan they don’t treat for sand flies and they are bad!
For me the more developed island of Roatan was much more enjoyable. I do realize that a lot of people who love Utila are looking for that undeveloped laid back vibe. That just wasn’t me.

I’m the woman who never vacations in the same place twice, and I’m back to write a third review singing Bogdan’s praises.

I convinced my mom, who had a horrendous experience as a new diver in Cozumel, to brave a global pandemic to dive with me here, and my coup de grace in convincing her was the extraordinarily personalized attention and the utmost professionalism that Bogdan and his team brought to the curated experience. Unfortunately, I was unable to make the trip due to a personal issue, but I was able to experience the trip vicariously through the dozens of photos of my mom, beaming at the camera, before and after diving, on her way to late lunch, at Neptune Beach, and so much more, some of which Bogdan was kind enough to send me.

From helping us book flights to and from San Pedro to Utila and our accommodations on Jewel Cay, collecting her from Utila on a water taxi, and taking her to lunch on the first day to making sure her diving skills were up to par before her first dives, diligently pointing out and educating her on the various marine life in the Cays and handling all equipment preparation, cleaning and storage, Bogdan’s team went above and beyond to ensure her experience was an unforgettable one.

Our family spent a week in Coconut House near Utila Cays and loved it.

Not a location for those looking for the bar hopping & nightlife of Utila Town. About a 40 minute water taxi ride from town will get you to this small, beautiful and laid back locale. Friendly local people will make you feel welcome and good options for a wonderful local meal and a cold beer.

Spent our week relaxing and diving with Utila Cays Diving - great experience. I think it would be a nice day trip from Utila Town, as well.

Amazing sunrises & sunsets, incredible star gazing at night and friendly people. Worth the trip off the beaten path.

If you are looking for great diving in a fantastic, laid back locale - head for Utila and dive with Utila Cays Diving (UCD).

Our family of five (adult kids) dove for a week with Bogdan, Mike & Captain Alton while renting a villa on Utila's south shore near Utila Cays. From start to finish, the experience was great. These guys are safe, professional, knowledgeable - and a lot of fun to hang out with on a surface interval. The valet service they provide was amazing - and may have spoiled us for future trips!

Note: If, outside of dive time, you are looking for nightlife, 5 star restaurants and a nearby supermarket, this may not be the location for you. If you are after relaxation that is a bit off the beaten path; simple, wonderful local food; awesome sunrises/sunsets & nights spent gazing at incredible stars, read on for details.

We put our trip together just a couple of weeks in advance when another trip cancelled due to COVID. Pre-trip planning & communication with Bogdan was prompt, easy and excellent. By departure day, I was confident he understood our plans & our diverse rental requirements, as our group had a wide mix of owned equipment/rental needs.

The experience, once we arrived, was 100% personalized, since we were a large enough group that we would be the only people on the boat. Bogdan came to our villa for initial paperwork & briefing and to collect gear. More importantly he confirmed our emailed plans and asked great questions to get a sense of our group, our experience and what we would be comfortable doing over the next several days. Bogdan also made sure appropriate COVID measures were in place - we were 100% comfortable about this throughout the trip.

Logistics throughout the week were simple thanks to UCD. They picked us up at our villa in the morning, we showed up with snorkel/fins/mask and everything else was on board and ready. Dives were planned based on conditions and plans for lunch (on 3 dive days) were in place. At the end of the day, we agreed to the next day's plan - and the cycle repeated. We were able to customize each day - Bogdan even got me home one day on time to make a business call that intruded on my vacation.

This was our second dive trip as a group - all of us had gotten OW certs about a year earlier. I cannot say enough about how great Bogdan & DM Mike made our trip. The first couple of dives - with both of them diving with our group of 5 - they accurately assessed where our skill/comfort levels were in the water. For the rest of the week, they perfectly balanced being attentive and letting us enjoy the dives on our own. Their knowledge of the dive sites was great & they pointed out many things during our dives that we would have likely overlooked.

The highlight of the trip for us was that we came home much better divers thanks to UCD! We were loving the diving enough to ask them to add a third daily dive for a couple of days and they were happy to accommodate. Better yet, Bogdan & Mike encouraged us to take on more challenges throughout the week - swim throughs, drift dives, etc. They never pushed us to do anything we were not comfortable with, but they took the time to tell us what they thought we could take on & took the time to teach us things. We would have had a great trip doing basic dives - instead we came home with our deep dive sign off and an incredible wreck dive and ready to enjoy diving even more in the future. We simply cannot thank them enough for this!

Finally, we have no words for how much we enjoyed spending time with Bogdan, Mike, Alton - and everyone we met in "the Cays." This is a small, tight knit community, but so very welcoming. A fantastic experience!

My family made our first trip to Utila in March and we couldn't be happier with the service we received from Utila Cays Diving. From our first communication to our last day on the island Bodgan and his staff were extremely helpful and most importantly made you feel welcome from the moment you arrived! The diving was fantastic, but what sets Utila Cays Diving apart is their knowledge to pick the right dive sites for the day, and their ability to adapt to the divers on board. For most of our trip it was only our family and one other diver, so the personalized service was unparalleled. The dive masters and boat captain are very personable and it was a pleasure getting to know them. Diving with Utila Cays Diving was the highlight of our trip. We look forward to diving with Utila Cays in the future!

Utila is known as a backpacker diving haven. There are plenty of diving schools to choose from and plenty of spots to explore. Outside of the diving, there really isn't that much to do other than see an iguana farm and visit the chocolate company. There is a nice public beach called Chepeys and another private beach that you must pay for, both situated on the town side of the island. However these would not be enough reason to visit Utila alone. The food options on the island are quite generic with most venues serving Baleadas, mexican fare, pizzas and hamburgers. You can find meals for under 100 Lp if you go to the smaller local restaurants.
Be mindful also that in bad weather you may not be able to get off the island. We were stuck on the island for an additional 3 days. So it pays to look at the forecast a few days ahead.
Having snorkeled at the Hol Chan Reserve in Belize, we had high hopes for our diving at Utila. Maybe we hoped too much or maybe we didn't get to the best sites but we thought the experience was just ok. It felt like there weren't that many fish around, definitely less than what we had observed in Belize.
If you are looking to do diving courses on the cheap, then Utila will suit your needs. However if you are looking for great diving experiences then I would look elsewhere, especially if Utila is your only destination in Honduras.

From the moment youstep off the ferry, you feel the vibe of a little Caribean town that buzzes during the day, a smells of fish fry and local cuisine aroma floating in the air! Island pace is great and enjoyable.
