I only went up there to see the statue, but there's huge park surrounding it featuring various plants. There are great views of the city as well. I was disappointed the museum/souvenir shop had nothing specifically related to the park or the statue. The entrance fee to the park was 35 Lempiras for foreigners (yes, a higher price for foreigners; it's on the sign at the park entrance) and another 10 Lempiras to enter the area where the statue is. Expect to spend a few hours here.

Visited the park while on business trip. It has astonishing views of the city of Tegucigalpa and the Monument to the Cristo del Picacho is certainly a landmark worth the trip. Security is great and folks are super friendly and polite.
Several cafes are within the premises and one at the entrance by the water fountain called Cafetalino was the best spot to relax and enjoy a coffee, craft beer or some wine! The view specially at night is the best!

As part of a mission group that goes to Tegucigalpa, Picacho is a must visit. We have a little church service up there and pray for the city. The view is unbeatable.

El picacho is a few minutes away from the city. It has a great view of all the city. Access is easy by car, bus or taxi. Entrance is approximately $1 or $2. There is also a zoo where you may see a lion, monkeys, alligators, etc. Although a bit deteriorated you can't expect much for such a low entrance fee ( $1 or $2 additional entrance fee to zoo). The UN park is a bit in further, really nice and different. And a bit further is the Picacho Christ (similar to Rio's), spectacular views and gardens brlow the magnificent statur. An additional cheap entrance fee also applies. Worth the trip. Safe for all as long as you don't wander off trails. 3 stars only due to zoo's current condition although I did notice they are beginning to remodel.

One of the four statues of "Christ on a hilltop" (three in South America & this one in Central America), it's Cristo del Picacho here which I would say takes the "second place" (after Christ the Redeemer of Rio in Brazil) for its greatness not just in terms of the size of the statue itself but also that of the pedestal below the statue with "long columns" under this statue where you can go through to "directly below" the statue (but no small chapel or such here like the one under the Christ of Rio) although yes the other two statues (the Christ of Cusco in Peru & the Christ of Arica in Chile) except for their "lack of grand pedestals" are also of some significant sizes not much smaller than this one & the one in Rio. But so, with the pedestal making quite a bit of difference for the grandeur of the statue, so does the viewing platform in front of the statue I would say (as is the case for Christ the Redeemer with a nice long platform in front of it) and which yes is exactly what this site "can improve on" in my opinion (no viewing platform here with just like a "close upward" view for actually being almost impossible to see the "full face" of the Christ!).
And along with a great statue is a pretty nice "south view" of the city below (mostly a "fairly flat" cityscape with just some small number of tall high-rises standing out, but a widespread one stretching to hills some close to the city & some distant ones) to see best from right in front of the statue and also from the 3 viewing shelters located outside the "pay premises" of the statue (although after the "initial fee" upon arrival at the park entrance); and yes as for that pay-area of the statue (just a negligible fee actually on top of the initial park fee), it's a "lovely garden" to walk around with some winding walkways among some well-maintained plant areas (not many flowers though), and also be sure not to miss the "mural scene" at like a far-end area of the garden (a short further walk past the statue).
After coming up the hill by taxi and getting dropped off where there's like a small cafe or such shortly inside the park entrance, it was about a 10-minute walk to the statue's garden (with actually also another mini-park or such along the way which I stopped by on my way back and where I noticed some "ziplines right above" with some staff people or such testing them out by going back & forth). The way back downhill though was just by a city bus (a bus stop conveniently just at the street corner a short walk outside the park entrance and which was after about a 20-minute walk back from the statue's garden with also just a passing by the zoo "inside the park" along the way).

So, you have the best view of Tegucigalpa, a Zoo, The great sculpture of Jesus Christ, and a place to feel the nature when you are really about 20 min. of the downtown.

On our first trip to Tegucigalpa we visited Picacho on a Sunday afternoon. The air was cool and many of the townspeople were enjoying the park with families, children and picnics. The statue of Cristo del Picacho is magnificent and the view is spectacular. The is a must see if you visit this city.

El Picacho on a weekend is birthday party central, bustling with kids and families having picnics and playing in the park. It is great people-watching and a cool, pleasant escape from Tegucigalpa proper. The view from the statue is impressive. We did not go see the zoo as I generally avoid zoos in developing countries. Set your expectations accordingly -- it is not a lush, green space of manicured gardens, but it is a breath of fresh air and a panoramic view of the city.
