I am always skeptical about art venues because they are notoriously boring. Georgia Museum of Art is not. There is an incredible variety of small, medium, large, and gigantic pieces of artwork that keeps you captivated. The walk to the building is beautiful and, once in, the nicest people will greet you and explain where everything in the gallery is.... More

I was surprisingly impressed with my visit to the GA Museum of Art last week. I found several interesting pieces to browse and enjoyed the wide spectrum of art available from classical to modern. Definitely worth a visit if you are in Athens and haven't been there before and you cannot beat the price of the admission (free) for the... More

We went to Georgia Museum of Art for a field trip with our class. Our group of children are 1st through 5th grade. We really enjoyed our trip, the tour guides were really prepared for our visit. They had activities prepared specifically for our age group, very attractive and engaging. We were very pleased with the experience we got. The... More

I am from Europe and I found difficult finding an attraction worth visiting when I first came to Athens. Well, the Georgia Museum of Art is well worth spending your time in... I loved the set-up, despite a bit of mix up of styles. Most of 'modern' European art is represented. But the part are the temporary exhibitions. Gorgeous. I... More

It's not a great museum by any means but it is an interesting collection. If you're in the area and have an hour available, by all means stop in.Don' expect the Louvre and you'll probably be pleasantly surprised. And, hey, it's free!

Thanks for sharing your experience at the Georgia Museum of Art. It's not the Louvre for sure! We started in 1945 with a gift of 100 paintings and have grown and provided quite a bit since then, all for free, and always changing — so be sure to visit again when you're nearby. More

The Georgia Museum of Art is on the Univ. of Georgia Campus in Athens. It's fairly easy to get to. You buzz in to go through a gate and park, all free. The museum is not huge, but the exhibits were exceptional. They have both permanent and traveling exhibits. When we went they had an exceptional exhibit of Samurai warrior... More

Always interesting. The Georgia Museum of Art has a large collection of its own, and curators who welcome traveling shows. Generally Saturdays welcome families. Check schedule to see what's current.

The museum isn't in Atlanta or any suburb of Atlanta, it's at the University of Georgia, Athens. The permanent collection (like American Band collection) is amazing and the temporary exhibits are very worthwhile. I was there when they exhibited "Samurai: The Way of the Warrior".
