Ho'okena Beach is off the beaten path used mostly by residents but welcoming to visitors as well. The surf was high the day we visited so we only played in the waves near the shore line. The water was warm and the beach offered lots...More

We were visiting and wanted to check out South Kona. It was recommended by someone around here to check out Hookena Beach Park to camp. We got there a half hour until sunset, and went to attempt to pay for a camping permit for two...More

I came to The Big Island in February 2018 and traveled around the island and camped at 3 different campgrounds. Ho'okena Beach Park was my favorite. You drive down a steep, windy road to get to the park, the ocean views were incredible. The camping...More

I love this beach. The sand is clean and the view is great. There are restrooms and showers on site. Only downside is not much parking. I have captured several beautiful sunsets while visiting this beach.

So this beach is definitely not the most popular but it is my favorite! It’s more secluded than some, but not too secluded that you can’t get to it! We packed an umbrella, a full ice chest with lunch and drinks, sunscreen, snorkel gear, and...More

We like this beach for a few reasons. It has the softest sand. There are facilities to use. And there is dolphins that hang close by. You can camp there as well. It can get crowded sometimes but it’s usually nice and spacious on the...More
