This was a hidden gem with an unexpected and slightly challenging trek to get there. Though, totally worth it. Go with a 4-wheel drive ONLY, and take the highest roads possible. We discovered that on our way back by following a guide. The low roads...More

Just over an hour each way but well worth it. Beautiful beach. A bit long of a hike but we were prepared for it. The water is fantastic, beach sand clean and not too busy. Nice waves. Not a bad hike. It did turn into...More

Worth seeing but do not believe any information you read or are told about how far it is to the sand. Pay the $20 ($10 each way) and be taken there and back by the native operators It is way further than indicated. Taking your...More

Depending on where you're staying on the island, the drive to the South Point/Green Sands area could be pretty long. But the views are fun - and you'll find yourself jealous of the luckiest cows and horses on earth, which you'll see on the way....More

One of the most amazing spots on earth. Hike in or 4wheel drive in... you can pay a local to drive you in. Either way you get there... you need to get there. One cannot see this beach from any distance. You don't see it...More

Once we parked at the designated lot. There were two options to get to the beach. You could either hike or take a shuttle ($20/person). By shuttle it really is a pick up truck and there are seating on the truck bed. No seat belt...More

Beautiful! Take the truck down, don't walk. Where else do you see a Green Sand Beach? This is a must do on the Big Island. Pay the $15 for the ride down in one of the for hire local trucks. 2.6 miles is too long...More

Hubby and I wanted to see this Green Sand Beach that we had read all about and were determined to make it there. We drove from Pahoa and it did take quite a while to arrive there. Once we did arrive, we saw lots of...More

We were staying in Waikola and drove our rental car there to start our day (2.5 hour ride with traffic). Upon parking, we decided we were gonna hike the entire thing (3 miles each way). There are locals there who offer rides to and from...More

We took the easy way out to get to the beach. We rented a Jeep Wrangler but decided against driving out to the beach ourselves. Instead we paid the $15/person for a rough ride out on the back of a pickup truck. That ride itself...More

The cost is for roundtrip. Our driver asked us how long we planned on staying. I am unsure how late the drivers hang out for. We were there mid am. As they are just locals, there is no "open/closed" time. We stayed about an... More

You could make arrangements with someone in the parking area for a specific time to pick you up before you head off hiking. Times are random. They basically wait until they have a full vehicle to make a run.

Yo cannot miss them they are in the only parking area for the beach which is a few miles away. Your GPS will get you to the parking area and they will meet you as you drive in.
