Me and my wife hiked this beast of a trail Jan 2017 over 4 days and it is a monster! We are both active but by no means marathon runners, and lets be clear this hike is a marathon. We live in BC Canada and are used to hikes up steep hills and muddy conditions, we assumed that all the... More

This hike was well worth it! I wore keens but I'd recommend shoes with more support that you don't mind getting muddy. It is decently steep at times and the trail can be very slippery; I wouldn't bring small children on this. The views are SPECTACULAR

You might want to go early, it's a popular trail. Good shoes help. Lots of elevation climbing. The ranger warned me that it would take seven hours. It took five and a half because we were fired up! Take water and small snack. Water crossings were easy if you don't mind boulder hopping.

Hiked the first two miles of this trail today to Hanakapi'ai Beach. In the winter there isn't much beach there and any time of year use caution as many people have died getting drowned in the surf. The trail climbs up and down the cliffs and can be slippery when wet. You need a permit to go beyond the first... More

Wow! If you're an outdoors person-do this! At least hike up to the first view (1 mile total I think). Better to hike to Hanakapi'ai Beach (4 miles round trip). The better option is to hike to the beach and then to Hanakapi'ai Falls (about 8 miles round trip). I'm 51, and in good shape-this wasn't any more difficult than... More

If you're into hiking put this one on the "not to be missed list." We hiked the beach and back. Key thoughts: - wear sturdy footwear (or bare feet?!?!) Apparently this is not uncommon for the locals and indeed we saw a number of barefoot hikers. Be prepared for very slippery footing - bring ample food and water (yes, just... More

I've done this hike twice and I can't stress enough to start the hike as early as you can...beat that Hawaiian Heat and the crowds headed to Hanakapiai Falls. Taxis are a little pricey and the island bus won't take you with your backpack during rush hours times so try to hitchhike! I recommend to do the entire hike in... More

We only did the 4 miles in to the waterfalls and had an amazing hike. The trail was pretty slick in most spots after the rain from the day before, but others have said that this is muddy most of the time. You have to cross the river 4 times on this trail. The views from the cliff trail on... More

Incredible trail to do. Only 3h30min to get to the beach and great great scenary along the way. Started the trail around 10:00am and it was easy to find parking upon our arrival. A lot of people on the trail and trail was very muddy. Make sure to bring good shoes with grip and snacks for the "road" to the... More

This hike was not easy or quick. Hiking shoes are a must as well as a lot of water(approximately 2L per person). The trails are rocky, steep, muddy and slippery. With that being said, I saw some of the most beautiful sights. They were breathtaking. The first two miles to the beach is not too bad. The second two miles... More
