This view is a short hike on the trail. It is a beautiful hike with ocean on one side and trees on the other. Bring water and be prepared for changing weather. Fog and rain rolled in on us pretty fast. Great hike for kids, but be sure to wear appropriate shoes and not flip flops.

Kakalau Valley is best viewed from Pu'u O Kila Lookout (pass mile 18). Rainbows are frequently in the Valley on a rain-and-shine day!

Located almost to the end of the road, it affords nice views of the Kalepa Ridge and the valley. On your way here stop by the Koke'e Natural History Museum.

Went twice to Kalalau lookout during my one week stay in July. It was cloudy with light rain on my first recon tour and of course we did not see anything. I waited for a sunny day and returned. It was still foggy around 10:30 but most clouds moved away around 11:30 which tells me maybe it is better not... More

The drive up was gorgeous and we stop along the way with a picnic, and took lots of photos of the canyon. We'd been before, so were keen to share the summit view with our good friends who'd traveled all the way from Australia to share it with us!! Have a look!! ha ha... good to go with forgiving friends,... More

A little farther up is the Wai'ale'ale Lookout point and it was completely clouded over and raining (one of the wettest spots on earth), so when we went just a smidge father down to the Kalalau Lookout, we expected to see the same thing (nothing) and almost drove past it. But, luckily we decided to chance it and were surprised... More

The top offers a magnificent view. Better to go there in clear weather. Rugged cliffs - are only in Hawaii

We were able to see and photograph these beautiful mountains and valley from a doors-off helicopter and from the Kalalau lookout. The view is spectacular. We had a very clear day until some clouds came in and started to hover over the valley. We decided to wait it out, hoping for a clearing again, when all of a sudden a... More

The Kalalau Lookout is one of the primary reasons for going up Waimea Canyon. The views are really beautiful. We had some rain, but it did not spoil the view. The rain created waterfalls on the side of the Cliffs.

Plan a whole day to explore the road to the lookout. Weather changes quickly so the area can be fogged in. The look out is absolutely beautiful
