Well..... I’ve done Hana before and while it has its moments of terror it’s a beautiful drive with tons of things to do and see. This road is not at all the same. My husband and I were just driving up that way from Kaanapali...More

This is one of the most polarized locations on Maui base to all the reviews. You either hate it, or love it. There is very little in between. We didn't read the review before starting the drive, and oh man, by the end of it,...More

The best way to experience this drive is to know exactly what it is before you start. It is a narrow, winding, breathtaking, beautiful, scary, and intense drive. In a typical tourist move, my wife and I decided to "take the scenic route" around north...More

This road has some of the most amazing views I’ve ever seen. But it also is the scariest road I have ever driven on. Most of it is narrow with only enough room for one car. There are few places with about two feet of...More

Do not travel this road if you are afraid of heights. It is made for 1 car to travel and the turns are deep so you can navigate to pass a car. It is called the "Highway of Death". If you do take this road,...More

Do not do this. It was one of my top 3 scariest experiences in all my life. You literally hug a cliffside, no guardrail, one way crumbling road with cars coming at you. The sights are beautiful but I had my eyes closed most of...More

We took this road counterclockwise, hugging a cliff edge in a Chevy Tahoe with only inches to spare between us and a 200 foot drop. I hadn’t known this road was so treacherous as on a map it appears to only wind around the coast....More

I LOVE driving on steep, winding roads. Highway 340 where it goes to one lane is over the top and ridiculous. Nobody should risk their lives or other for the right to say you did it or a stupid piece of banana nut bread. I...More

Was a very beautiful drive but at times quite scarry, many single roads and right along the cliffs. If not too sure of driving ability maybe go as far as just past Kapalua.

I assume you are coming from Lahaina/Kaanapali north past Kapalua. Recommendations in order as driving. Note that none of these places have big easy signs - or any signs, read the guidebooks, use maps etc to find them. 1... More

It varies as the road goes up over higher ground and descends frequently to sea level to cross river valleys. At its highest, several hundred feet.
