Molikini was actually the worst snorkeling of our week in Maui. The entire experience is overrated because tour companies want your money. Problems with the trip include a lack of fish, (variety and quantity) overcrowded snorkeling area, way too choppy ocean water in the crater,...More

Molokini crater is way too commercialised. The water clarity is amazing but the reef pales in comparison to the Great Barrier Reef. Quicksilver charter... Reasonable trip , but the staff think they are way too cool ... They were most friendly at the end of...More

We went on a morning snorkelling with Quicksilver as we wanted a large stable boat. It was a stable boat indeed, in comparison to a few smaller ones we've seen in the harbour. The tour starts at 7am but they want you to check in...More

I come to the island to stay with my grandpa every year and finally this last trip I decided to go visit Molokini! I found a great snorkeling tour that set off from wailea. It started at around 6:30 am and we were the first...More

We visited here around 6:45 AM and were the first ones at the crater. The views are terrific. The water is very clear. I've heard of people late in the day it gets very crowded. The ship we took only had about 40 people on...More

Definitely a very unique experience however the people on the island hype up the snorkeling like there will be an abundance of colorful fish. There are plenty of fish, however when snorkeling there are hundreds of others with you, making many of the fish swim...More

Great Trip with a small Group and cool guys in Assistence! Early Start before all the big boats disturb the experience! Both Sides of Molokini, another stop to snorcle with sea turtles and of course bumping the waves- Great fun!

What a great catamaran and crew. The second windiest port in the world was calm and the water was flat on the trip out to Molokini. Fresh fruit and goodies laid out for anyone who hadn't had breakfast. There were wetsuit tops for rent, thank...More

We took a snorkeling trip here with Trilogy (they were great). There were honestly more people then fish at this site, it's VERY popular. This could have been due to many factors: water temperature, time of day, time of year, destruction of reef habitats due...More

If you are a snorkeler, you will appreciate being able to see to depths closer to 100 feet without leaving the surface. Enclosed in an arc, the water is also relatively calm...so if you are a first time snorkeler, you will gain a lot of...More

Is a wetsuit recommended for diving at molokini crater. Going in early May. If so what thickness and shorty or full suit? Bring your own or rent? Thanks for info.

I am 62 years old and did not need a wet suit. We went in April. I did not notice any difference between the Crater and on shore. Cool at first, just jump in and start swimming you'll do fine.

If you have your own boating license, can you rent a boat and go yourself?

Yes, There is one boat rental company, but you cannot anchor there, must use a mooring and they are for commercial vessels only until 10AM.

Going to Maui in Sept. My wife and I are both scuba certified. Should we snorkel or scuba Molikini and which dive operation do you recommend and why? Thanks.

Hi Sorry for the late reply. We did both and I preferred scuba diving. The key is to make sure you are at the crater before all the snorkel companies get there. When we went we were diving at first light and had the crater... More
