The road winds with ample space for two lanes but some very tight turns. Take stops to acclimatize to the pressure difference and watch the clouds dance along the mountain.

This was one of the highlights of my last trip to Maui. Getting up at 3am was not fun and the ride up in complete darkness was a stress. Don drive to fast please. Dress warm and in many layers. It cold up but, wow. It is so worth the trouble. I would do it again.

Depends on how much time you have. If you have several weeks to explore, it's a beautiful drive. If you're on a time budget, there are better things to do!

This is a great drive, it's a wonderfully designed Road that sweeps up to 10000feet through dozens of superbly laid out switchbacks, a beautiful drive right to the summit. Apparently initiated by the Civilian Conservation Corps on the 30s, it stands as a legacy and a modern day delight.

I loved driving this road. Windy, twisting, dark, FUN! Have a confident driver and you'll enjoy the drive up as much as the sunrise at Haleakala itself. Be weary of those with motion sickness, it may be a tad much.

We set off really early morning to get to the crater for sunlight but could feel that this was a windy round. However on the way back, the true beautiful surroundings unveil, truly stunning and you're up in the clouds. Bring motion sickness tablets if you're that way inclined. But try and look out of the window, you don't want... More

This is a crazy road, very squiggly and wiggly but it's very scenic. You get to ride above the clouds which is mind-blowing! 10000 feet elevation, you get from 80 degrees to 30 degrees so bring a jacket so you can fully enjoy the experience without feeling cold. There are also a bunch of stops to enjoy the view, take... More

This drive was terrifying for me but exciting at the same time. It's one of those things that you do and then say to yourself at the end "I Can not believe I did that" There was one lady that pulled over crying. I felt bad for her but I had to keep going or I would've been on the... More
