Medina is like diving into the past. Manual work is still part of the everyday life in Fes. Expect old school pre industrial revolution workshops for metals, textile, wood, leather, food...it's like going back to 40s or something. I am Italian and the strong cultural difference can sometime be overwhelming here. My wife wore a pair of trendy jeans with... More

Medina of Fez is quite an experience. You cannot say it is pretty. No stunning views. But it was like going back centuries. The narrow souks, the walled houses without windows, the craftsmen, their shops... things being done like five hundred years ago probably. Exciting. But I would not recommend for a single female traveller. And one needs to be... More

I've been all over the world including the maze of Varanasi India, but the medina of Fes is something different and not to be missed! Wander around and get lost but don't be out after 10, you might get harassed by kids offering to help you find your way home for a small tip. The tannery, street food, metal makers... More

Have a walk through the medina, which IMHO is more charming than the busy medina in Marrakech. Some youngsters tried to "help" us since my friend and I probably looked lost, but in truth we just wanted to wander freely and explore.

Explosion of colours, flavours, textures, sounds... Try not to pay attention to the "helpers" of all sorts. Just get lost in ancient winding streets which are not only home to many people but a giant marketplace and living and functioning community. They still have textile street with fabric and accessories stores where you see men behind the sawing machines putting... More

So many colors, tastes and architecture dating back to the 9th century. Either enjoy getting lost there (and plan many hours for that ;) or get a guide to pick the highlights - they actually have several topic "circuits": history, culture, architecture, handcraft, etc. We spent 3hrs with a local guide, much enjoyed it ! :) ... we also bought... During the day the medina is the perfect place to spend hours wondering, seeing sights, eating food and getting lost. We decided to find the blue gate and work down from there. There are two main down routes you can go on. There will be lots of helpful 'guides' wanting to show you the way to the tanneries etc. but... More

Fez Medina is by far my favourite medina in Morocco I've been to. Hustle, bustle and not so much hassle. Loads of different street food stalls and hole in the wall places, lots of alleyways to disappear down and get lost. Find yourself down a dead end in residential area for an authentic taste. If you like shopping(not my thing)but it's got anything... More

One could very easily get lost wandering through the many kilometres of amazing sites, smells and tastes in buildings that are hundreds of years old and full of so many colours and images from Arabian nights.
