Reading reviews of the old tannery I was expecting a terrible smell and took the mint leaves from the man at the entrance fully expecting the worst. Perhaps the wind was blowing the smell in another direction because, to me, it was barely noticeable. The...More

Somewhat interesting neighborhood with balconies and ironwork but far more interesting sights in the medina. If pressed for time you can skip the mellah.

This section of Fez used to be the old Jewish Quarter. Very few, if any, are still there as most have left for the US or Israel.

Cemetery is very interesting, and our guide took us into a beautiful synagogue. The architecture here is different, interesting visit to see the difference between the Jewish and Arab sections.

It's a cemeterry. And not a particularly interesting one. Good way to practice your Hebrew reading. Good that it's on the way to something or would get few visitors.

I understand it is hard to reconstruct the Mellah since people live there, but it would be a pity to let the beautiful Jewish houses with balconies fall down ... We enjoyed a stroll in the neighborhood one afternoon, with the visits of two of...More

Mellah, old Jewish quarter of Fes is one of the best preserved site of its kind in Morocco. It is located next to the Royal Palace in Fes El-Jdid, where you can admire its "golden" gate from late 60's. Mellah itself has different vibes than...More

The Mellah is only about a 10 minute walk from the Blue Gate but the architecture and feel is very different to the Medina. The area is generally in a poor state of repair and the offers from " guides " are far more aggressive...More

The Jews of Morocco had a long important history and for many of those centuries Fez was a center of Jewish life. Almost all of the Jews have left Morocco and the Jewish Quarter is simply a sad reminder of that past. The synagogue has...More

Check with your Riad in Fes. This would be the most trusted way of finding out. Some days the street market is closed.
