You will never look at leather in the same manner again! The intensive physical labor needed is heartbreaking. An interesting fact - camel leather has a distinct odor that will not go away over time. Purchased a man's wallet for $10 as a gift - it was a winner!

The leather is made with traditionnal techniques in this place. There are high quality products at a very cheap price.

I have used three guide books for Fes and not one of them calls these tanneries "Moulay Abdellah Quarter". Anyway, the tanneries are interesting, that's all

The Fes Tanneries have been located here since the Middle Ages; and this is one of the few places in the world where the tanning process is the same as it was in the 12th century. This is a must-see destination for tourists visiting Fes and is accessed from one of the souks via a series of alleys and narrow... More

The Moulay Abdellah reflects the almost ancient architecture of Morocco and takes one back in time to the 12th and 13th centuries, a time when creativity met with necessity to create an eternal story of peace, creativity and co-existence. The modern day inhabitants of this cultural oasis still reflects the millenia old culture of peace in a desert.

Only place where this method of cleaning leather is proceeded. I got there for free. You will hate the smell tho, grab some mint or other scent before heading maybe.

We had a traditional mint tea on the terrace of a small cafe overlooking the leather producers. It was gorgeous!

Even if you are with a professional guide , do expect to get a tour of the leather shop after seeing the tannery even if you are not interested in buying anything . The tannery by itself is quite interesting and the ''guide'' provided by the leather shop is usually quite knowledgeable and interesting . It is still one of... More
