Rebuilt but still worth a look.

Crazy that they rebuilt this place at it has taken away so much character but it is still worth a look . Not as smelly as people make out either.

quite fascinating seeing the process of turning a skin into leather. However, I did not enjoy being pressurised by the sales people, nor was I impressed by the price of the finished articles.

Some guy claiming to be the official guide of the tannery led us in to have a look and take pictures. He didn't even speak proper English and wouldn't let us go even when we insisted. At the end he made us pay 100dh - a totally unreasonable price. Be careful about these people and bargain better than we did... More

We were somewhat "led" by a young boy to the tannery. He kept saying that we don't owe him anything. It is quite a maze to get back into the tannery. You are then passed off to a guide who will walk you up and explain the tannery to you. It is a pretty cool site. And it does smell... More

We went on one of the many terraces around the leather manufacturers to observe this very interesting work in the process.

The leather production is very interesting to visit if you are close to this quarter. It's still produced the same way as it was done centuries ago.

I found this tannery more interesting and bigger than the one I visited in Marrakesh. The smell was strong so the mint offered by the shopkeeper helped . I found watching from the balcony of the shop was different from watching it from the ground level. Both were good and offered different perspectives. We were able to find the tannery with... More

Our guide dropped us here and while it was very interesting don't be filled the intention is for the owners to sell you leather goods. I went for the photography experience which is amazing but unless you want leather goods keep your hands in your pocket and look only . It's amazing to see handmade tanning in this day and... More

Best is to accept an offer from people in the street to see observe from one of the shop's terraces. Tough life they have, spending the day bending to work the leather in cold water with smelly ingredients (they say they only use natural stuff, no chemicals). If you do not buy anything, do not forget to tip the guide.

They make one of the finest leathers in the world here and it's really nice to visit in the morning.
