We booked Morocco Explored to plan our honeymoon, and we could not be happier! In addition to exploring Marrakech, we were able to spend time with local Berber communities on our way to the Sahara. We especially loved the Ait Bougmaz valley, where we stayed in a beautiful village with a local family. Our host Rakia made us a homemade meal and gave us a tour of the fields (and took lovely pictures!). We also got to see how traditional mud homes are constructed (we should've asked to participate!), which gave us some architectural context for famous sites like Ait Benhaddou. Be sure to ask your guide to see the local soap making center in Rbat village, which is staffed entirely by women and has space for the local children to play. This experience seemed much more meaningful than cookie-cutter tourist excursions because of the interactions we had with local communities. We highly recommend asking for Rachid as your driver. Not only was he an excellent driver, but also our tour guide, and helped us arrange last minute excursions, hotel upgrades, and even itinerary changes. The only thing is that we did not know in advance that Rachid works to support nomadic shepherd families who have children they struggle to feed. If we had known in advance, we would have liked to contribute with some non-perishable food items, as most nomadic children are, sadly, malnourished. We recommend talking to Rachid ahead of time if this is something you would like to contribute to. Despite the off the beaten path experiences we had, we still did the typical tourist activities--exploring Marrakesh, staying in fancy, beautiful Riads, swimming pools, hammams, luxury Sahara camping with fireside music, camel rides, all of it. This was, after all, our honeymoon. With Morocco Explored, you really can have the best of both worlds--authentic experiences with local communities and a luxury vacation.

My husband and I had an amazing, full and very memorable day this week spent with Rachid of Morocco Explored Tours. From the moment we met him at our Riad in Marrakech, we could tell that he was the perfect guide for us as he had such a positive energy, excitement and passion for his job. With only one day to spend outside of the city, we wanted to learn as much as possible about the incredible culture of Morocco and he really delivered! We appreciated Rachid's flexibility with the schedule, his extensive knowledge and willingness to engage in meaningful conversation and how very safe he was in what can be crazy driving conditions. Understandably so, some guides we have have encountered over the years seem burned out, kind of sick of dealing with tourists and don't seem to enjoy the role. Not so with Rachid! He genuinely loves what he is doing and it shows! In addition, we found this day trip to be very reasonably priced and quite a bit less than the excursion that the Riad would have booked for us. We are already planning our next visit (this time we hope to bring our kids with us) and would love to spend more time exploring with Rachid through Morroco Explored Tours. We thoroughly enjoyed this experience and would not hesitate to recommend him and this company for your next adventure in Morroco!

Last week, my husband and I went on a private 4 Day, 3 Night Fes to Marrakech tour with Rachid from Morocco Explored and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. We normally prefer to travel independently on our own without a guide, but were very happy that we chose to enlist this company’s services because we were able to relax and fully enjoy that time, and have cultural experiences and historical insights we wouldn’t have been able to have on our own. From first contact, our experience went smoothly. We communicated with Essalah from Morocco Explored via email, and he patiently shared different tour options with us and explained the differences between each of them. He provided us with ample information from the company about our tour, and traveling in Morocco generally; we referred to those documents multiple times during our trip. Essalah was patient and informative, and made the booking process very easy. Ultimately, what made our tour with Morocco explored stand out was our guide, Rachid. He is an energetic, knowledgeable, local guide who grew up as a nomad before settling in a Berber village in the mountains until adulthood; he is familiar with both the traditional and modern sides of Morocco. He has a wealth of historical and cultural knowledge and speaks excellent easy-to-understand English; we told him that we were eager to learn during our trip, and he taught us so much about life and local and regional history. Rachid also acted as a cultural liaison, helping us to navigate social interactions with Moroccan people in our riad, at our desert camp, and in businesses and restaurants. He also took great care to make sure that we were comfortable and having fun every day. Rachid was the key to us enjoying ourselves, laughing, and learning every day. One of the most meaningful parts of our tour with Rachid was a modification that we decided to make to our schedule at his invitation. We were originally scheduled to spend most of day three and day four seeing touristic sites in Ait Ben Haddou and Ouarzazate. On day two of our tour, Rachid offered another option: instead, we could travel to his family’s village, R’bat Village, in the valley of Ait Bougemez in the Central High Atlas Mountains and spend the night, and then visit Ouzoud Falls en route to Marrakech the next day. There was no pressure in his invitation. We ultimately decided to modify our tour as Rachid suggested, and were both so glad that we did, because it was an unforgettable experience. We saw epic High Atlas views, said hello to and took photos with welcoming villagers, met farmers working with traditional equipment, did light hiking around the valley, saw dinosaur footprints, listened to Berber music, saw traditional mud houses, and more. But most importantly, we got to meet and spend time with Rachid’s family and friends, eat delicious meals made by his generous and welcoming mother Rakida, and get a glimpse into Berber life that I don’t think many visitors to Morocco get to experience. We had a comfortable traditional bed in the open-air summer room (there is also a winter room) in the family’s mud home – the bed was made on carpets and thick padded mats (I’ve included a photo), and a fully-equipped bathroom with shower and Western-style toilet. We had every comfort while still experiencing traditional village life. The twenty-four hours we spent in Ait Bougemez valley offered us a level of cultural exchange that will stay with us both forever. I’m so glad that we made the decision to change our plans. We were so pleased with Rachid as our driver-guide that we actually hired him to take us to Essaouria for a day trip after we arrived in Marrakech. He made that experience positive as well, stopping at sites we were interested in, walking us through the fish market, showing us the rocks and walking us down to the tide line beside the city, and making recommendations for how to spend our time. All in all, if you are thinking of hiring a driver-guide for your time in Morocco, I highly recommend booking with Morocco Explored and requesting Rachid. You will have fun, you will learn, and you will make memories that you will cherish for years to come.

When our friends returned from Morocco with wonderful memories of a great trip, Roger and I decided that's just what we needed! The company they used and highly recommended was Morocco Explored, with Rachid as their guide/driver. Much thanks to Essallah for organizing our well planned trip. Rachid met us at the Menara Airport and the adventure began. Hanane was our city guide, a city well worth visiting. A day trip to Essaouira, viewing the Atlas mountains and the Moroccan countryside is not to be missed. Leaving Marrakech, we drove to the Blue City (Chefchaoune) another must see city. After a two night stay, we drove across the middle atlas to see the Ouzoud waterfalls. Next we continued to the Ait Bougmaz Valley in the high atlas mountains. Here we had the unique and personal experience of meeting and staying with Rachid's family. A wonderfully constructed mud house with a completely modern bathroom! The Ait Bougmaz Valley grows apples, walnuts, corn etc. and especially nice and friendly people. Close by was the Ibakliwn Valley and the footprints of the dinosaurs. We ended our trip with a camel ride and a night in the Sahara dessert. I learned so much about the Berber Culture and about the Moroccan way of life. An invaluable experience!

Worth every penny and could not have asked for a better experience in Morocco and with Rachid! We toured with him for our entire two weeks and really learned so much about the history of each place we went, about Berber and Moroccan culture! From going through Medinas, through the Sahara Desert, and then through the Atlas Mountains, there was not a dull moment of our trip!! We cannot wait to go back and will 100% do this same journey with Rachid and this company again. Thank you!!
