In Islam it is forbidden (haram) in the Holy Q'uran to make anything that depicts animals or people. It is a form of idolatry. I would love to have a conversation with someone here about art. At the Modern Art Museum, there are many depictions of people--some nude. I wonder how the Moroccan people see this exhibition space, especially since... More

This is a beautiful art museum. I stumbled upon it while looking for the Archeological Museum which happened to be closed for renovations. It was International Women's Day and so they had on an excellent exhibit of Moroccon women artist's work. Top notch. And it was free for women that day. The staff are fluent in many languages and helpful.... More

This museum, in a lovely building close to Rabat Ville train station, is a 'must see' if you like modern art. For me, it was a real surprise to find such an amazing temporary exhibition (female Moroccan artists 1960 - 2016) and permanent collection in Morocco, especially as the museum doesn't feature in the Rabat section of my DK Eyewitness... very well laid out, many excellent pieces (and some not so great if you are not into modern art), great place to spend at least two or three hours depending on how much time you have to visit the city

The current show of women artists is astounding, in the range of work, the quality, and the political nature of some of it. Not what I expected in a Muslim country

We've gotten so used to cheap museum tickets (10 Dh) elsewhere in the country that I had irrational sticker shock that I had to pay $2 to visit this wonderful new museum. Helpful explanatory posters in French and Arabic. No doubt this would rate a 5 from anyone who actually cares about art.

An alternative museum, that offers a deep view of the work of morroccan artists, it also hosts great international chef d’œuvres, very moderated place.

I live in Marrakech and really wish we had a similar museum here. I spent two lovely hours discovering contemporary and Modern Moroccan art, very interesting. Unfortunately the info is all in French and Arabic, no English
