Nice Place to see in Tanger

Nice historical place in Tanger, an occidental bridge in a very typical Medina. It's a strange and strong sensation to be here, like a come back in time.

Great place for historical facts. A bit of folklore. A bit of art and books from American artists. The building is beautiful and well preserved.

The American Legation Museum is a must-see for all American history buffs... also for those interested in author/composer Paul Bowles. This is THE only U.S. National Park (technically a national monument) outside of the U.S., also the longest continuous U.S. embassy in the world. Additionally, there are peaceful and beautiful gardens and lovely rooms to wander around. Hours are limited... More

This is the first American consulate in the world. Right now, It contains a library and a museum. There are many belongings to Paul bowls there as well. It is located in the old part of the medina but not very difficult to access.

The Sultan of Morocco included "Americaines" vaguely in a list of trading partners during the American Revolution, which seems to have been interpreted as diplomatic recognition, so Morocco is the first country to have recognized the U.S. Anyway, the museum is interesting for its displays on U.S. connections to Morocco. If you're not an American, however, I can't imagine why... More

Great thing for Americans to see. Morocco was the first country to recognize the US as an independent nation, and there is even a letter written by George Washington himself thanking the King of Morocco.

Entered from an alley within the medina, typical except for the brightly painted wooden pallets, adorned with flowering plants, hung along the narrow walls. Some of the rooms and terraces are so close to the visible street life, they seem intermeshed yet what grandeur awaits inside. This is an opportunity to step into history within beautiful rooms, most with interesting... More

This place is an interesting visit for anyone who is intrigued by the multicultural and political past of Tangier. The fact that it is a US outpost actually gives it an objective overview of the superpower struggles over the cit and the Straits - refreshing and unlike most American heavy handed adventures.
