Harare was recently rated as the least liveable city in the world, behind even Bangladesh's teeming, impoverished capital, Dhaka. Years of sanctions, political chaos and economic stagnation have clearly taken their toll. Harare is a city which has fallen on very harsh times. Yet Harare Gardens- the Central Park of the Zimbabwean capital with their poinciana trees, some of them with people asleep beneath them, have a nostalgic appeal for these travelers. Just make sure you leave your wallet and jewellery in the hotel safe before coming here.

Would say the best part of park is its serenity and the surreal environment around. You have to at least not hope for grandiosity as it is a place to catch your breadth and watch the city bustle.

The gardens have had their heyday and are somewhere between untended to okay at this point. But it is a great place to see local Harare folks relax. A nice change from the downtowny 70s lane it skirts. The ketchup carrying snack providers will come round and are quite sweet natured.

Super awesome place. The top of the mountain was very scenic and beautiful. Around sunset some very nice gentlemen tried to sell me some local products. It really added to the experience. 10/10 would visit again.

The Harare Gardens are a very pleasant place to relax after a busy day. During lunch time one can take a stroll around the park and enjoy the cool environment away from the busy streets.

l grew up going to there gardens and they were the pride of Harare. They were always kept so clean and pristine but l guess just they have been neglected over the years and wild shrubs are growing everywhere and does not look like there is anyone looking after them regularly. It was still nice seeing that they are still popular with wedding parties and girlfriends and boyfriends cuddling on a sunny afternoon but my heart bleeds for this place.

Do yourself a favor and tour this transformed park. We also had dinner and our guide was lovely and very focused on the history which made this tour more meaningful. Dinner there at sunset was delicious and kind of magical.
